The sun was shining the other day, so i decided to get out a few bits that weren't due to be fed for some natural rays. Thought i'd share.

Who likes real yellow sulawesi's?

Awesome pictures! I love big snakes. I am not allowed to have snakes or the sort for the time being, but of all snakes the big ones are my favorite. I can't imagine what your neighbors think about this, though. I love those last two pics. Beautiful snakes.

Your collection is stunning. Too massive for my blood but it's nice to be able to live vicariously through others. ;) I also wonder what the neighbors think...

thanks, i like to get all of the bigger stuff out in the sun on hot days, most the neighbors know what i keep and are interested, but there is a 6ft fence alongside one side anyway and a 4ft one the other that blocks a lot of the view into my garden from the immediate neighbors.

Thanks, i prefer the mainland retics to the dwarfs so end up with lots of bigger snakes lol.

here are some of the others

It is crazy isn't it, the other one you can see in the pic of the 2 on the ground, and is much darker, but was in shed there so even more so, but as babies they were more golden

here are the same 2 as babies

looking at that makes me realise how much they have grown and how much the colours have changed.

Good to see you posting dude great snakes too bad they are too massive for me lol

Thanks, i tend to come and go on forums, dropping in every now and then, it depends on my work schedule lol. Yesterday i was actually on a film set with some animals which was different lol.

Mate, youre far too pretty for reptiles. ;)

Just kidding, awesome snakes. Do you find that the sunlight changes their behaviour at all? I know a lot of larger lizards act quite differently after exposure, just wondering if this might also be true for larger snakes.

It's actually not the first time i've heard that lol.

And not really mate, even with my lizards when they are outside, the sunlight doesn't seem to change anything, they get a bit more defensive outside than usual, but i'd put that down to the birds flying over head and new scents to make them uneasy. When they are on me they are good as gold, if i put them down and then go to pick them up they can be a bit tense, but i think that is more down to the new environment rather than the effects of the natural lighting. I think it probably does them some good to get a few real natural UV rays every now and then though.

Massive change ain't there, wouldn't think you'd be looking at the same snake.
They are both a bit touchy in the viv, have struck the glass before, but once out are both really good, typical retic really when out. Active but not defensive.

Yeah for sure, what are you feeding them? I've seen similar changes when diet changes are made.
Don't you love that? All they want to do is eat until you pull them out, then they just want to explore. Fantastic species.

Thanks
I find them cheaper to keep than a lot of smaller snakes really, i build my own cages so thats much cheaper than buying them in, i feed the sub adults and adults once a month on a few large meals, and that keeps them in great shape, rather than weekly feeding, and i generally only use one high wattage heater and a light in the cage so costs about the same heating wise, 'but they do take up a lot of room lol.

They take everything, jumbo rats, guinea pigs and rabbits, not tried them on birds as they are a little harder to get over here. But i like to give all my snakes a varied diet.

And yea does make it interesting, open the viv, dodge the food response strike, pull them out and they are fine, lol.

I agree, i think a normal retic is still nicer than a lot of other moprhs. They are always such good looking snakes.
