A fang scratched my lens...

I feed live, and this video shows the effects of venom on live prey, so if you don't like that, don't watch.

Thanks - very interesting to watch. What's the reason you feed live? Will they not eat F/T?

They might, but i'm not going to keep trying. Sometimes they don't even eat the ones they just killed, sometimes they will eat anything. I've had them not eat several feedings in a row. I see no reason to make a huge push for F/T. As long as I don't leave the mice in overnight or unattended there is a very small chance of them damaging the snake. They aren't constrictors... They bite in the blink of an eye and get the hell away until it's dead.

Very interesting, what is the time in-between getting bit and death?

am i the only one who thinks its incredibly ironic that the guy with the "paramedic & firefighter" pic has venomous snakes? haha very cool video.

For what, a mouse? I've witnessed everything from minutes, hours, to amazingly instant, some don't even take another step after a bite. There's even been a time or two when i've seen a mouse surely dead, not moving for hours and hours, then gotten up and started walking again.

On average 2-5 minutes.

Cool video. Are you worried about the vipers breaking a fang on the camera?

I thought I was keeping it just out of range, but I guess they managed to get one in.

Very interesting video! I usually feed f/t to most of my venomous, since it's cheaper and more convenient. I have a male cerastes who is a fairly fresh import and wont' eat anything. He gets live, and if he doesn't kill it in 12 hours, it goes to the female (big garbage disposal snake). She will bite and hold on until the mouse stops struggling..it's usually in about 30 seconds or less. It's really amazing how quickly the venoms act on rodents when you consider that humans last several hours to several days after most viperid bites.

nice snakes!in my experience, the time in between getting bit and dead depends on how much venom they injected!
my copperhead can kill a prey in 52seconds or 8mins,

Considering the size difference I don't think its that shocking that we can last a few hours, days is impressive though. We also have to remember that a large fang biting a mouse, is much different than when it bites us. Size equivalent would be like getting stabbed with two of these
