View Full Version : Desert themes...
My sister saved a gopher snake at school yesterday and decided to keep it since he's such a sweetheart. Right now I have him on paper towels with simple hides... not very attractive.
I want to give him a desert theme since his low humidity requirements can support it, plus gophers around here seem to enjoy being out in the open so being a little barren won't bother him.
What can I use as substrate? I know that sand doesn't make good substrate and I thought about using aspen, but it's ugly, reminds me of mice.
Sorry if this is the wrong forum, I didn't know where else to post this. ^.^'

Why not just release it some place a bit more secluded from people?
My sister wants to keep him because he's such a sweetheart.
We've caught dozens of them, but have never met one that had the personality of a corn.

I have a gopher and I am glad she is not like a corn. Half the fun is her larger than life attitude. Still very easy to handle but the feeding response is awsome as is the hiss and tail rattle.
I just keep mine on aspen. She can burrow in it and bomb around quite well. She loves to gide behind plants so I have many fake ones in her enclosure. Maybe consider a slightly modified theme????
I think I'm just going to use aspen. I've been doing some research, and even though I hate it, it's the only usable thing even remotely close to the dirt color around here.
I'm gonna have some plants and stuff, but I wanted to stray away from the jungle theme I have going for my BP and corn. I'm mostly going to have fake succulents and cactus, maybe some pretty desert flowers if I can find some fake ones :3
Though, we're going to keep him on paper towels in qt until I know for sure he doesn't have mites or something else my snakes could catch.
My mom isn't comfortable near snakes with attitude. One time my BP tried to eat my sister because she just got done holding her bunny, my mom doesn't like to go near him now  I thought it was funny xD
Maybe he'll develop a spunky personality as he gets older :P
