Ive had my Sumatran Short Tailed Python for about 4-5 months now. He is about 1 year old and hasnt pooped since I've had him! I know they say that short tailed pythons dont go often but 4-5 months?? His temps on the warm side is 82 and on the cool 72. Humidity at 60-70%, eats a small rat once a week (has never missed a meal and has a wicked feeding response) and has shed twice.
Is this normal for him to go this long with out pooping?

Please correct me if I am wrong but isn't 82 kind of cool for the warm side?

Short tails thrive at 80-85 degrees. As they get older some adults will want warmer temps but most prefer 80-85.

Alright I just wasn't sure. Have you maybe tried soaking him? I've heard this is supposed to help.

Yup lol he's fully hydrated. I guess he's just not ready.

In short I wouldn't worry. I always try to have a slightly too warm hot side for all my snakes. That way if they need a metabolism boost ,they have it available. If not they won't go there. ALL of my snakes use it. After a meal or when they feel they need it. In the wild sitting in the sun heats them up more than 82º for sure. Just a thought.

I don't think short tails don't sit in the sun often. I believe they spend a lot of time buried in mud.

Double negative, so you do think short tails do sit in the sun often!
I'm in the airport in Cairo waiting for 5 hours before my next flight to jordan lol

I'm pretty sure short tails don't sit in the sun often as they spend a lot of time buried in mud. ;)

Yea but what you said means they spend alot of time in the sun :P thats why I said it. Isn't it pretty difficult for a short tail to find a basking spot anyways under the canopy?

How often do you handle your Borneo? What size food does it eat and how big is it? Pictures would help.

I just got done "milking" my yearling Blood and it worked beautifully. About 6 rock hard uric acid pellets came out and then she pooped. She had not pooped in over 5 months. She looked more comfortable and immediately asked for two shots of Jameson on the rocks!;) Just kidding about the latter. Seriously, it worked great. Just a light, deep message, NO hard squeezing- that could really hurt them. Thanks for the tip Marvelfreak!
