Safety concern following mosquito spraying

I just found out that my house is no longer considered to be in a "red zone" meaning that the county is now spraying my area for mosquito control. My question is does anyone know how long I would need to wait following the spraying to bring my lizard out side? Pyrethrin is the insecticide used in most mosquito control sprays. The spray is done from a truck with a spray that forces the insecticide to form a heavy mist/fog which coats everything within at least 100 feet. Thank you for any information.

That sounds like cancer waiting to happen. It definately can't be healthy for you...

So far all I have been able to determine is that the spray that is in direct sun light is gone after about 5 hours. Any where else it can last for up to 3 weeks or until it rains. Some of the new sprays are combining a chemical with the pyrethrin so it doesn't lose it toxicity in the sun and will remain active for longer periods of time. Looks like no out time for my boy this year, they spray every Friday.
They actually use this stuff in many states for insect control, CA, RI, NY, CT are just a few. Some of the states like NY are using the synthetic prymethron(sp?) so it remains longer.

I never saw a cancer truck spray my front yard and I live in CT. Honestly though, with the wind patterns and all that goodness, the cancerous air from china is probably in our backyards. There is a lake in the yukon or somewhere up north, and you'd think it would be pretty pure water being in the middle of nowhere but its the most polluted lake in north america or something like that. They had to ban fishing and drinking from it from the level of carcinogens present in it due to the wind bringing them from other areas. Crazy stuff.

More government BS, I wouldn't go on there property and spray neurotoxins around. I despise them doing this, I like to be able to much on wild foods growing around my property without having to worry about cancer, kind of defeats the purpose...

You're probably safe after a day or two with the lizard, depending on how close he will be to where they spray. Just be careful of any foliage close enough for him to eat, or any water that could be cross contaminated, such as him drinking rain that ran off of sprayed plants or trees.

Thanks Randy, That's the problem most of my property is planted leaving only the driveway and patio with no plants. Both of these are in direct sunlight but also get very hot. Looks like we will be staying indoors this year.

SMY you wouldn't necessarily have them spraying from the road it's also done by plane. Roadside spraying is done during the late night/early morning hours.
I'm really bummed by the whole thing. We get sprayed on Friday nights between 10 and 11pm so pretty much knocks out the weekends.

Valvaren We have a lot of wildlife so can't imagine what it is doing to them. This time of year we have the peepers out, had one on my door the other night. There are also all sorts of other amphibians and snakes in the area. I wonder how many the spray ends up killing off.

Never heard of them spraying for mosquitos from planes,,,maybe chemtrails do exist....

I knew they did it years ago but didn't realize that they still do. Saw an article in the newspaper concerning the early spraying. After doing more research today was surprised at just how frequent it is done. It makes you wonder why it's allowed still with the dramatic increase in cancer rates.

I took a research class last year on cancer. If you want to be really freaked out, I suggest you read "Living downstream" . When you finish reading it, you will realize that your government does not , nor will they ever have your interests in mind. And basically everything gives you cancer. I'm pretty sure the numbers are like 3/4 of people who live to be 60 from my generation will get cancer. Water bottles, air, water, cellphones, laptops, carpets, shampoo, food, soda, whatever. Don't stress the carcinogen thing, most of us who live to be old enough will get cancer. Even ssnakess.com probably causes it. :D

About the spray thing, I sleep at early ( going to bed now at 9 :P). I always knew morning dew was a government coverup hahahahaa

Pyrethrin is what is in PAM and other mite treatments for reptiles, this is not going to harm your animals. If youre worried about taking your reptile outside, simply make sure the grass is dry first.

My concern is the strength used in mosquito control as compared to PAM. Dinosaurdammit lost her boa to pyrethrin used in too strong a mixture. I'll stick to inside this year unless we get some nice heavy rain followed by nice sunny days.

wow I used to be an exterminator and we would charge a lot of money to spray peoples houses for mosquitoes. with the stuff we used dogs and cats and children were aloud to go out in the yard within 2 1/2 hrs after spraying was finished. I wld wait longer tho lol

What does your lizard do when it's outside? Does he stick to the grass, or do you put him on certain bushes to climb on, or what? I'm asking because if you keep him confined to a small area, can you put a tarp on the grass or over your bushes on Friday night before the spraying, remove the tarp Saturday morning, and keep your lizard confined to the unsprayed area?

Yes, and that was a very high concentration that was used, and in a confined space with water present. Thats a lot of variables you dont have to worry about.

Your choice of course, and I understand the "better safe than sorry" idea, just wanted to help alleviate the stress for you if you did want to take your reptile outside.

I have the same problem.Not only does the city spray for mosquitos but our neighbor hires this off the wall company to spray her house.He uses a hose and douses the outside of the house, and I mean sprays it on thick all over..I have an aviary on my porch.what if the wind is blowing and it gets in their food or water.I always expect to find a dead bird but so far its been fine. Also these shady guys are always looking at my dogs like they want to spray them for barking at them.

The tarp is a good idea. When he goes out he sticks to the lawn. He's a BTS so doesn't climb. There is an area in my back yard that is some what protected from the street so would be a good spot.
