Outdoor time?

If I get an Ackie, I'm thinking I might take it to the woods in the summer to do some foraging and exploring and stuff. If I were to do this, I'd put it on a harness/leash thingy or something. This probably sounds really stupid, but do you think it would be a good idea to do this if the Ackie becomes tractable?

With a larger species I might if it did not seem to find it stressful, but I don't think I would with a smaller species. A better idea might be to construct an outdoor enclosure to allow them some outside time in a larger space.

How do you go about solving the burrowing under the fence issue? Do you make one with a solid floor? And to boosh, even with a leash, if he decides to wedge himself in a nice little hole, or in a rock crevice, then you are sh** out of luck

Ah ok, I was just thinking about cages without bottoms built onto them. You could always build a base like you said, and bury it in the yard so the top of the base is flush with the rest of your yard and leave it year round. Have some attachment points, bring out the cage top and snap it in place. (If you don't want something permanent in your yard unused all winter)

The only outdoor monitor cages that WORK have floors.

Personally, I would pour a cement slab.

Myself, I will not be walking my monitors on leashes anytime soon, they are far too fit and active, I am afraid of them slipping the harness, rolling in it and getting hurt, etc.

They are tractable, but far from being anything close to "obedient" or "tame" ....

Chomper was overweight, slow (lethargic) and no danger of escape... Littlefoot or Cera would be up a tree or down a gopher hole in a second flat.

A healthy, well kept monitor of most any species will be so quick on it's feet, that leash walking would be difficult to manage without hurting the lizard.

funny you say this... i tried to take my lizard outside just last week and i made this "harness" for him and well it wasnt working so well.. soon as he hit the pavement he tried to take off running, hes a fast little guy and almost slipped his harness so i decided to keep him in his cage lol..
