Do jungle carpets tend to be duller when young and brighten up as they age? Or will they always be dull if that's how they are at birth?

It depends.
Your best option if looking to purchase any animal is to get a look at the parents. If they are nice...you have a better chance that the young will be as well.

So yes they brighten up with age but may dull back out as an adult.

They change with age.

Looking at both parents will give you an idea of what it will probably grow to look like but there are no guarantees.

If I really wanted a bright jungle, I'd spend the extra $100 or $200 on a younger one that's already nice and bright..

the above is good solid advice mate

imo the majority of dull looking hatchlings, the older they get the dirtier/muddier they become and the colours brown or fade out, that said i have seen a few exceptions, where dull (not muddied up ) yellow has turned into a spectacular yellow

imo the majority of bright clean crisp yellow hatchlings, usually turn out to be exceptiobnlly good looking adults, and if your lucky they will produce great looking hatchlings, that go on to be great looking adults

as has been said, the parents are a good indication of how the hatchlings will turn out

that said,iv'e seen ugly carpets produce good looking snakes, and good looking carpets produce ugly snakes, but the general rule is,good looking parents will produce good looking snakes
