Hey guys I'm new to the forum ! I plan on getting a GTP when I'm done with college. I've owned many pythons and boas in the past so I am no rookie. Just looking for a challenge now. I was wondering if you guys would like to post how nice or tame your snakes are. Pictures are encouraged !

Mine is as tame as can be, tho we hardly eveer handle him. Had him approx three years and he has been taken out of his viv less than ten times.
If they weren't so fragile i would use him as an educatinal snake working with kids.

Really? That's interesting ! I know they're fragile but even as adults?

I am reading a book about GTP it's called The Green Tree Python and Emerald Tree Boa
author is Ron Kivit and Stephen Wiseman.
Lots of info to read but I am only on page 10 lol.
Not so much fragile more delicate I would say.

Most of the Chondros I've owned and hatched have been very flighty.
On occasion you can get one that's mild mannered but, over all...they are best left alone.
They are very insecure off a perch and, most stress very easily from handling.
Now, not to say there aren't placid ones around...but, I've had very few out of 100s

I held mine today, to get his stuck shed off. Got most of it off, except the very tip of the tail (very delicate). I managed to rub it off gently without picking at it or anything, and he rested nicely on my hands the entire time, not moving. (this is a vicious baby, strikes at everything, even through the glass).
Anyways, as soon as I finished, he gave me about 3 or 4 bites in a row so I don't get the wrong idea about him.

I hope mine is. I'm obviously not going to handle it like I would a ball python or blood but I'd like to on occasion. Specially when I need to help it shed or when I start to breed them.

You shouldn't plan to need to help him shed. Think positively :-P I don't think most bloods enjoy handling either, not as bad as GTP's but they can be feisty. If you are going to handle yours, I would suggest opening your cage door at night and letting him leave the perch willingly, prying him off is a recipe for disaster, and getting bit.

All snake has their own character, some is more easy going then the others. I only handle my female Aru several times. And I haven't touch my blue line yet. They are sensitive after light out and will strike to the door window when any movement in front of the cage. but when she is on hand, she is okay and checking you out, But normally nasty neo won't have feeding problems.

I currently own two Green Tree Pythons. Tango my Biak Cross is extremely tame during the day but like all nocturnal snakes at night they are always on the hunt. Cosmo, my male biak is very defensive. He has gotten a lot better but doesn't want to be bother. I believe Cosmo is most likely a Wild Caught, which 9 times out of 10 they are going to be defensive, but most captive bred animals are tame. I don't bother my GTPs very much, I handle Tango every once in awhile, Cosmo I will sometimes take his perch outside to take some pictures. Like stated above Gtps aren't the best handling snakes but can be handled. It just isn't recommended you handled them to often. Green Tree Pythons are very rewarding snakes to own, just make sure you do all your research and have everything set up before your baby gets home, :)

I have a 5yr old Biak and no matter the time or day he will try to eat you. If you walk by his viv he will strike at the door. I have handled him twice in the last 4 yrs and will continue to only handle him when 100% needed. He is my favorite snake though, I love the attitude.

I have only ever been bitten by my gtp about 3 times. The first time was when I was first bringing her home and she had just finished being treated for mites and had only been handled for treatment (so imaginably she was angry). The second was the first time I fed her and learned that just because it's a small snake doesn't mean I shouldn't still use tongs. The third was during a shed and I accidentally startled her trying to clean her cage. Otherwise, she doesn't bite and is very docile and willing to be held. If I open the tank and leave it for about a minute she'll uncoil and climb out to explore and most of the time comes over and sits in my lap, wraps around my wrist or gets into my hair (I wear it in buns a lot of the time and she wraps herself into a coil around my bun). It's really dependent on the snake on whether they're going to be docile or not. Whether they're going to like handling or not. Whether they're going to even be interested or not. Whether they want to bite or whether just walking past the cage will stress them or not. My snake isn't stressed by this. Continues to eat, has little to no head shyness, very curious and very cute. I've also had her since she was a baby. Like I said, I don't think any snake is mean specifically because of what species it is. I think GTPs are a little nippier sometimes, but again depends on the individual snake.
