I was at the local pet shop the other day to get some feeders, and noticed something that made me smile...
I've been in that store at least twice a week for the past year to buy feeders, and always make a habbit to visit the reptiles and see what they have. Every time I would see a Sav I would get upset because they would have it in a bare cage with one hide, low humidity, no basking spot and wood pellet bedding. I mentioned this once or twice to the employees there, but they just ignored me.
The people that work there know me quite well by now, and always know exactly what I want when I come in and they go to get it for me right away, which I love! They usually ask about my monitor and how he's doing, and for the past year I have been trying to sneak in the importance of proper husbandry during the conversations.
I figured all my talking was falling on deaf ears, but I went into the shop today to get some more frozen rats, and decided to check out the reptiles as usual. I noticed they had another sav in and grew dissapointed... until I looked into the cage :). Not perfect, but they had him on about 2-3 inches of moist soil, lots of hides and cover, and had a heat and UV bulb on him :). They still didn't have a proper basking spot in the cage, but I can work on that next time I go in ;).
I spoke to the clerk about him, and she said they've tried to sell him quite a few times, but the people said they were too hard to look after properly and refused to buy him :).
I have to say it really made my day to see and hear that.
