Hey guys, thought I'd post here to all the photography enthusiasts. I just got the macbook pro with retina, and want to get a decent camera to go along with it :P They say you can really tell a difference after 8 or 9 megapixels on this display. Anyways, My budget is under 200 dollars, just want to take some pics of animals, scenery, (travel stuff) and whatever.

Let me know your suggestions...
Thanks

I bought this one last year and I have been really pleased with it. Not sure how much it goes for over there but it can't be to far from your budget

Never had that but the a430 goes for even less, and it takes great pictures.

Well honestly, its not that I'm poor. I just don't want to pay more than 200 but if I can get a really great one for 150 or something, I'd rather get the good one. Basically the best quality that I can buy for 200 or less (don't need the cheapest one)

Definitely look into the Canon Powershot a430 ... I had one a few years ago and I never had a problem with it. Should probably run you under 100 bucks right now. Its one of the older models but I loved it, especially the super macro feature on it. The videos weren't the best though.

The following camera is over $200, but at just $214 I'll mention it anyway. If you're just looking to take pictures of your animals and wild life as an amateur try the Fujifilm Finepix SL300 - 14MP 30X optical zoom. Here is a sample pic of a Gopher I took with the Fujifilm...

Ok guys, so the optical zoom seems to be an important feature for what I want (take pictures of wildlife from far away) and I'm leaving to go do some herping in Jordan in 2 weeks after finals :P .

Any thoughts on this one. Its 30 x optical and 16.0 MP and 13 dollars over budget....seems to have good reviews? Let me know!

The online reviews seem ok ranging from anywhere from 3.5/5 to 5/5

I looked up some sample pictures taken with it, I wasn't amazed. But for 200 bucks...should I have been?

I can't speak on that cannon, but I put a picture up of a turtle and cropped it close to show detail - I can only speak on what I have used. I think the shot of that Gopher is pretty good. You have to decide if you agree. I also like the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX200V - but that is more around $350. If you're not looking to get a DSLR - the aforementioned Sony or the Fujifilm I posted a sample photo of is decent for the money. Let us know what you decide.

The Canon SX series are amazing little cameras. Mine's an older SX20is - I love it!

I recommend Canon.
