Thought I would post a summary of my new girls and the new sorority house:

Here we have two times 4foot x 2 foot x 12inch PVC cages ( two door). 6 inch heat tape across the antiretroviral back of both. Two hide per cage with temps stabilized as you would expect. Controlled on VE-300x2 thermo set to proportional. Plug and play. (What was that info-mercial guy who said "set it and forget it"?) :)

The lower right says room for rent across it....but it has already been taken!!

Girls as follows:

First up: mystic potion: about 500g (I think), calm and settling in well. Have offered food a few times (live and thawed but no interest yet.) good sized girl so no worries!

Her name is Trinity as it takes two different snakes to come up with the Mysic Potion. Three different snakes total...the wife's ideas.
So pretty:

(She is also my Avitar now)

Next up is Olympia. 300g lemon blast who is eating like a champ! Took an F/T rat pup like she had a score to settle. (One on Sunday and another this AM). skittish when sh came home but coming around. Will be calm soon. With a voracious appetite like that she will be big....fast:

Then we have a little Bee: she is lesser, pastel, bumble bee. She is like 200g max!! So itty bitty. So calm, so amazingly relaxed! Took at rate fuzzie on Sunday afternoon like a champ. Had a gear big poop last night so I offered an other this AM if she was still starving. Hit that like a scene from wild kingdom! Wife water to call her Charlotte...So she is.

Pice does not do her justice. She is going to make amazing babies!!

Last up is Savannah:

She is a Mojave + Cinny cross. first produced by NERD in 2006. (morph is a actually a Savannah Mojave I believe) She is around 550g, came home a little nervous but calming down well. Offered live and / or F/T rat pups but she is not interested yet.

We thought about names but my wife liked the style of more so her name is Savannah:

That's about it for now! :)

Thanks to Mykee and Teraunaut for the advice and keeping pointed in the right direction. (Nice to meet you Aaron....)

Cheers, Chris

PS. Keeping the 20gal long on the floor upstairs incase Faro decided to slither up to the heat at night. When he shows up I will put that thing D/S also

Great meeting you as well Chris.

A couple pointers. You're correct in the name of the Savannah. I don't believe anyone uses "Savannah Mojave" anymore. Much like how the spider was once the "spider-webbed" and everyone eventually dropped the "webbed" part.

You mention offering the potion a meal a couple of times now. I would just sit and wait, keep hands off her until she does eat for you. I would recommend offering the same food item (weaned or small rat) every 7 days until she takes it. I found the best way to get an animal to eat is consistency.

I also think the fact that those two animals haven't eaten yet (the potion and savannah) is probably due to them being in a much larger enclosure then they are used to. It may take them a little more time to adjust. If possible, I would get smaller hides, so they have to cram themselves in to the point that it lifts up from their body size.

Nice way to start a collection. Nice to meet you as well. Keep posting lots of pics.

Wait until you discover carpet pythons ;)

Yup. I can certainly get smaller hides. What I did do originally was fill the hides with bedding about 3/4 full so it's tight in there. But I can easily get the next size down for now.

I'll wait until the weekend to offer a rat for the bigger girls.

(Sorry for the fat finger mistakes on the original posts....I did all off my phone during and internal meeting!) (yawn) (system no longer gives the option to edit and clean up....so it's all English)

So hard to keep hands off the girls!!

Little Charlotte was sitting at her door looking at me like a puppy waiting fir something. So (against my better judgment) I pulled her out for 30 seconds to take a few pics (she is such a great temperament):

Pic three of three. She is Pastel Lesser x Bumble Bee. Not sure if that is actually Queen Bee or Killer Queen Bee. Either way...she is awesome:

It's a queen bee.

Pastel x Lesser x Spider

If it had an additional pastel gene in it it would then be "killer queen bee". You'd notice a really lighter snake. Maybe someone can post a picture if they have one.

So would it be correct to say the snake was mis represented at the show? (See pic of container) Where is says Pastel Lesser x Bumble Bee (that would have been 4 gene..two pastel genes included and therefore Killer)

As you advised I did look around on google Images and you can see the killer Queen has much lighter saddles and a lighter head. (two pastel genes..One in the bumble bee, one in the Pastel Lesser...right?....that it's wrong?)

Yes, the container looks to be telling what the parents were. That pairing could indeed produce a queen bee.

Yeah, what Aaron said. That animal is not a killer queen, it's not super pastel. She's a triple.

Cool. You guys are awesome.

Just wanted to make sure I have it right in my logs.

Oh...and Savannah and Trinity (potion) are now under smaller hides that are just pushed off the bedding. Looks kinda funny.

Speaking of funny: Olympia (blast) thinks she is a turtle! She has been spending lots of time in her cooler hide and it appears she has decided it's a mobile home. Moved it 6inches yesterday.....another 4 last night. Is that a product of repeated coiling or an attempt at burrowing while in that hide?

Cheers,
C. :)

Probably when she shifts her body around or cruises about she may move it.

I doubt it's an attempt to burrow because ball pythons aren't really known for that type of behaviour.

Probing Question (for senior members):

Originally I have buried the wire and placed the thermo probes on top of only ¼ of bedding, topped with a couple of inches of bedding. Then I found that as bigger snakes cruised around at night the probe was disturbed screwing up the temps.

Knowing that tape (or any kind of adhesive) is a “no-go” on the inside of the enclosure:

I have since moved to a similar set up for the probe and simply put the water dish on top of the bedding where the probe is. Works so far giving me a nice 93deg on the back end of the enclosure. Although I need to set the thermostat to near 100deg in order to read my 93deg on the hot side.

I wanted to ask the very experienced members on the board about any “best practices” you have found to work best for probe placement within the enclosure so that it will be secure and the set point / actual are closer. (Or as close as possible)

In my rack system the probe is on the heat tape. I use a temp gun to read the temps in the bin and adjust if necessary.

I've seen people use types of suction cups with some sort of hook to run the wire through on top of it.

Some people have used silicone I believe as well. I have no idea on these items though and their hazards in an enclosure.
