My burm shed last night and is now contorting his body, moving kinda backwards, rubbing his head on the ground with his mouth open and whistling. He also had at one point his head tilted straight back in like a C shape. If anyone knows what this is the help would be greatly appreciated.

Odds are he's got some stuck shed in his nose and its annoying the crap out of him. Give him a humid hide and a few things to rub on.

When my scrub has a bad shed, its not uncommon for her to invert to try and get a better angle at those hard to reach places.

He just passed away a few hours ago.

I'm sorry to hear. Could have been an RI that went unnoticed until it was too late

Ya possibly. He appeared so healthy.

That's really surprising, I wouldn't have elected an ri to kill that fast. Also, the inverting and staring doesn't sound like an ri. Could it be ibd? Look up stargazing.

I think IBD too. Did he seem dizzy and like he didn't know up from down?

Can snakes have seizures? That could explain the 'suddenness' if it wasn't IBD.

Either way, you shouldn't have put the ball in there if you've only had him for 2 months. And now you should prob move the ball out of that room back into quarantine away from other snakes incase he caught whatever it was.

Thanks for the support everyone.

... I never had him housed with other snakes, he's the only one I had.

Sorry mate, reading too many threads at once and my mind got all joggled. Mixed your thread with the retic acting funny one.

I still think it could be IBD though by what you described...or a seizure of some sort.

How long did you have him for?

Possibly chemical exposure, but without knowing more details about what happened in the last few days or having a necropsy done its really hard to tell. Really sorry for your loss. If you plan on getting another snake make sure you burn or sanitize EVERYTHING, especially if you can't figure out a cause of death.

Woah crap!? 10 years old, totally fine his entire life, and then suddenly in the span of one day/a few hours he ends up freaking out and dying?

Sorry to hear this.

It could've of been too hot, chemical exposure, kidney failure or an infection. Any other things we should know?

Sounds like a chemical to me, and the only reason im saying that is because it sounds like it caused some neurological problem. Sorry for your loss man. Can you think if you used any new house hold cleaners, or detergents?

sorry to hear that.

I would doubt it would be IBD to have happened so quickly. It sounds like either a neurological reaction to something, or a possible seizure / organ failure.
