"The incident occurred in the Indian state of Punjab. Two puppies fell into a well. Their mother ran near the well and started barking, and attracted the attention of the owner, who looked inside and to his surprise there was a king cobra at the bottom, which didn't pose any threat to the puppies. Moreover, the reptile, looked after the puppies, by not allowing them to cross to the other side, where they could possibly drown, when the well is filled with water.

In general, they spent around 48 hours together at the bottom and in these 48 hours the cobra sat quietly next to them. When help finally arrived from the forest department, the cobra slithered to the other end of the well. The puppies were not injured at all and the reptile was immediately taken into the woods and was released into the wild.

Even the most deadly and dangerous creatures on earth know what Co-existence and mutual assistance is. The human race is in this respect far behind, and this is our biggest drawback."

That is not a king cobra in the picture. It's a Naja naja kaouthia, the monocled cobra. The hood shape is too wide for a king, and the body color is wrong. Also, there is no banding on the hood.

Is this even possible? Amazing if it did happen but not likely. Where did you get this story from?

It has to be fake...that is not a king cobra. Also, it's just not neurologically possible for a snake to exhibit protective behavior. They are intelligent, but they are not maternal or social animals, so there would be no tendency for it to protect young..of any species.

I could see if the cobra and puppies were actually in a well, the cobra might keep them on the other side out of self-defense. They are too big to be a food source, but if they stayed back the cobra would not be terribly likely to attack them. IF this happened, it sure wasn't because the snake was protecting the puppies!

Do Circulating Images Show Puppies being 'Guarded' by a King Cobra? (http://www.hoax-slayer.com/cobra-guarding-puppies.shtml)

The pictures are very clearly fake, and it's a ridiculous story at any rate. Is there some reason this is being questioned at all?

Wonder if this story is true because the puppies were very close to the cobra.
I know about cobras and they have been known to attack anything that is less than its own body length
