Good day everyone.
I have just upgraded my MBK's terrarium to a 48"x20"x24". With his old terrarium I have been using incandescent clear lamps during the day and red during the light. I wish to upgrade his environment so he can have better night time conditions.
I wish to start using ceramic heaters and run those 24 hours a day for proper heat and no light, Paired with that I will be running a 5% UV fluorescent lamp for day time lighting.
My question is, does ceramic heaters/emitter heat as well as an incandescent lamp and do they equal the heat ratio etc… 150w lamp = a 150w emitter?
Best regards and thanks in advance.

I use 150w ceramics in my four foot vivs, USE A THERMOSTAT and make sure there is absolutely no waay the snake can touch the bulb. I have read 400+f using my temp gun on the bulbs.

My temp gun wouldn't even pick up the temps on my 150w exo terra CHE, at around 12 inches I had 100f surface temps.

I got somewhere in the mid 300s to low 400's (if I remember correctly) on my 60 watt ceramic.... How hot of temps can your gun pick up?

I don't think they go very high. I know its not worth much now, since you already paid for it, but if it ever breaks, you can get a home depot one that reads temps up to 7 or 800 for the same price. I got a ryobi one with a full year warranty for 27 dollars.

I got the zoo med one because it was so small, and it was a bit more than $27..

Snakes don't need uv light, make sure you use a Che socket for our Che bulb or you will wreck the socket.

Thanks again guys.
I know my MBK does not NEED UV light, I just wanted to give the closest I could to natural light for his day time hours. I'll probably just us a 2700K CFL 13w.
This will be my ceramic setup.

Personally i wouldnt use a rheostat, they dont automatically adjust with ambient changes and if you are away from the house during a heatwave or sudden freeze the temps wont be consistent in the viv.
I recommend a pulse proportional thermostat when using a CHE.
