Hi, as the title states I'm new to the forum. I have some questions I was hoping I could be helped with. Currently I have no snakes or any other reptiles and have never had any but I'm looking into getting either a snake or lizards (leaning towards a snake) and eventually a separate aquarium for a few frogs.

So I've been doing some research about how to setup tanks and what size and what to put in and what kind is best suited for which kind of snake, etc....but the one thing I'm having trouble coming up with an answer for is DOGS. I have a 3 1/2 year old Boston Terrier dog who is 25 lbs. He's not too crazy while at home (at the dog park hes a bit nuts though). He barks occasionally at people that walk in front of the house and then runs outside as if THIS time he will catch them. Silly dog. Anyways, my point is that I dont THINK he would be jumping all over the reptarium and even if he does I would be able to keep in a room with closed door like my bedroom if it got too bad.

I guess my question would be, assuming my dog is well behaved and barely even gives a sniff of the cage, would that stress out a snake just having a dog around?

Are there other concerns I'm not thinking about? I do plan on makiing sure the snake cant get out as to limit that kind of unfortunate interaction between the two.

Been thinking about getting a pet of this sort for a while now but just now have I started getting serious about it and gone ahead with planning whatI need, so any help in regards to setup, care, cleanup, NO ITS A STUPID IDEA TO HAVE A SNAKE AND A DOG IN THE SAME HOUSE, etc.....feel free to shout it.

Welcome, we have seven snakes, two cats, two guines pigs and a dog all living in the same room with no issues. The only thing to make sure is that you keep the snake away from the dog when you are handling it.

Thanks for the reply. Yea I dont plan on having them as play mates or anything :) Just wasnt sure if a snake would get stressed by barking since my dog likes to bark at people walking by the front of my house.
