Are these viable? Since I live in an apartment, I can't keep a separate "reptile room" to be able to maintain temps differently, and my wife and I prefer our house around 68-72 degrees. Too cold for a snake.
Therefore, how can I bump his ambient temps up from around 74 to the low 80's in a Sterilite tub? Will a ceramic heat emitter/lamp melt the plastic?

If I could do this all over again, I would've simply bought two RHPs. One for the current enclosure, and one for the eventual 4' cage I'll get when he's older and fully grown.

heat emitter would mealt the plastic yes, they get very hot. your ambient temps in your snake cage is only at 74degreesF? even the low 80's is too cold for that snake. my ambients on the hot side are at 90-95 ish and sometimes up to 98 and my cool side is mid-low 80's do you have a heating pad?

Mild winters where I am and most of the time if I put my crested geckos on the top shelf of the bookcase they are okay, with nothing on them at all. There are a few weeks out of the year when I drop them down on a shelf and cover the front of it. A low wattage red bulb generates enough heat to keep them in range. My thermostat stays on 60 in the the winter during the day.

According to the care sheets I've read, they need from 75 on the cold side to 85/90 on the hot side. Ambient around 78-82. I bought a second heat pad with dimmer today and am going to maintain the cold side like that. Not only should it raise the ambient temps, but it should provide a perfect gradient.

I left the CHE facing over my plastic table for a few seconds and it started to warp, the temperatures I read off the bulb with my Infrared gun were too hot to read but the outside temps of the fixture was over 200f
