I found a tiny snake at the parts store that a lady working there was freaking out over. I think it may be a baby black racer but I don't know. It's about six inches long and about as big around as a pencil at its middle. It's a dark gray color with an almost white belly. I would post a pic but not sure how from my iPhone. Any ideas? Also, what do snakes this small eat? Bugs?

It sounds like what we call brown racers here where I am from. Great fun little snakes hold. As far as posting pictures I use photobucket and atach the img code to my post. I do believe they feed on crickets, worms, small insects

Could it possibly be a ring neck? It's about the correct size. Quite often the ring is barely visable.

Virginia striatula? I don't know where you're located, but it looks like a rough earth snake.

I'm in southern Oklahoma
I'm in northern Oklahoma...I really think rough earth snake. I've caught many of them..Based on the pic that's my guess....it would eat earthworms, slugs, soft bodied insects, etc...

You said, "Virginia striatula" and he said, "I'm in southern Oklahoma" and it made me chuckle. I dunno if he was taking it that way, making a joke or it was an honest mistake but I thought it was amusing.

He said he didn't know where he was located but.....to which he replied.....well it's all above :)
Oh...I see it now. LOL ...but "Virginia" is the genus name....striatula is species name.
I prob should have worded differently... :)
