View Full Version : Esmerelda Profile
This is Esmerelda, my 2010 Pastel female BP. She is a Halloween baby that I received in 2011 from a breeder in Westbank.
She has quite the disposition; usually meaning that she will snap at you if you get too close! Sometimes she is fine but usually as soon as you put her down she hisses at you non-stop until you put her back. Needless to say she doesn't get out as often as everyone else but she seems to like it better that way. Plus she eats a lot better when she isn't bothered.
Recently she shed and in my opinion, she looks really good for being 2.5 years old. Most pastels tend to "brown-out" over time but she has held her yellows quite nicely even though she has browned over time. Pictures don't do her justice, she is a lot more yellow than what is shown. Enjoy! :)

She's pretty, cool name too. :)
Wow, she is gorgeous! Interesting about the disposition though, the only time I've heard my BP's hiss is if I inadvertently mess with them and haven't noticed their eyes are gray.

Thanks! Yes, she has always been like that. A little bit more defensive...I figure it is because she was at a breeders for a year with little handling before I got her. She has tamed since I got her but she still has her moments :wacky: Not too worried about it though, she eats well and when she is calm she's really nice.

she is gorgeous, how long is she?
Good question....
I measured her a few days go, and my best estimate was 3.5 feet.

at 2 1/2 years old? they must grow slow then lol.. my BP is same length but younger than yours :-/
Yeah she decided to go on a 6 month feeding break last year and started back up this year. She has lots of catching up to do after that!
My 2 year old male spider is over 4 ft and he's a solid eater so that would be the difference there :)

aah, ok i thought she was a little smaller than should be at her age. lol. just curious because i only have one so i dont actually know how fast they *should* grow. i know mine only stopped eating for about 3 months then started right back up and hes getting pretty big :D im excited but somewhere i read that it takes like 15 years for them to get that big it just doesn't seem right to me.

Yeah, I was a little set back with her fasting but since she has started back up again she eats like a champ. I expect her to be a big girl but probably more so in thickness rather than length. :) I'm expecting my new scale to come in this week so I can give her a proper weight measurement as well! :)
I love watching them grow! How old is yours?
I wouldn't say that they are that slow of growers at all. The biggest female I've seen was over 3,000 grams and around 6 feet, and I believe she was 5 years old. I wouldn't expect that from a male BP, but it's definitely possible with a female! I think it all depends on how often they feed and if it's a regular thing, but because BP's are known for their fasting (especially in breeding season) they slow down. Too many variables I tell ya!

we aren't positive out male is "male" lol, im not certain on the age. i bought him boyfriend back in september 2012 and he was around a foot in length i wanna say and no wider that the width of my thumb, he was very tiny and since then he has shot up in length and size, its about 3 1/2 ft not sure on weight, i need to get a scale (coming soon) lol and hes about 1 1/2 inches wide maybe 2 wide. hes also a normal we aren't really expecting to see him get bigger than 4 ft really

Ah fair enough! Did you get him at a pet store?
Awe, he does sound like he was a tiny one! They sure do grow fast though, as long as they are eating anyways :p My male spider is a decent size for a 2 year old I figure, since he's probably over 1500 grams too. He's a big boy! :D

yes, one day when my boyfriend was working on my car he broke 2 things in the process and i was mad at him for 2 days and was yelling at him because of it and i felt so bad that i went to petsmart (this was before i learned about breeders) and i spent about 300 bux on everything he needed including the baby BP and brought it home for him, this was also before i liked snakes lol. i used to pick him up with a spatula i was petrified of him for some reason lmfao :P its funny now :D but thus began my love for snakes :D

Awe, well I guess a snake came out of the situation which in my opinion isn't a bad thing! I'm just happy that your Ball is eating which is always a good sign, especially when they come from a store like that. Hahaha, sorry that made me laugh! A spatula....classic ;) Seems like you have come a long way, good for you! :)

I had no idea that those stores sell reptiles that are sick, i must have gotten really lucky because i see a lot of people say theirs is sick and yatta yatta when they come from petsmart or petco. mine was just as healthy and happy as could be. i have never had any problems with him, he did have a couple scars on him from not shedding properly those have no gone away, i thought they would but they aren't visible unless you look close. i also got my water dragon from there and my mom bought me a colombian boa from petco for a surprise (out of my control lol) but i wont ever do it again, since i have learned lol but im glad mine are all healthy and happy :D
