On a side note it is funny how that is considered a 6 foot lizard. I am sure tail and all it is 6 feet, but I hear 6 feet and I picture a large asian water monitor or a perentie.

"Animal Control darted the lizard, which Klein said can grow up to 14 feet long," Yeh... ok..
The more disturbing part is that someone let a croc monitor loose. I really hate the fact that any idiot can purchase such large monitors so simply.

Agreed, Jarich.. Government regulations aren't the answer of course, but we need to police ourselves...
Stephan, actually I believe they can grow to those sizes... It isn't the norm of course, and most of it is tail length, but I would believe that they could grow that large.

Do scams like this lead to an autoban?

I thought posting others pictures and claiming them as your own was an automatic ban too?
Pretty sure this was on RFUK earlier as well, minus the picture. Maybe they didn't have a picture of their own two and used that one instead forgetting to credit the original source........ maybe not
but..but..but...they have *all* of their toes....

Stephan is correct. Although the '14 feet' is often quoted, there is no reliable record of one exceeding 10 feet.

What is the largest recorded komodo?

As far as I know, the largest Komodo dragon was 3m, perhaps a bit more. Around 10 feet.
The record for longest monitor was apparently a Sri Lankan water monitor that was a bit over 3m. It would have been much smaller than a large Komodo, though, because of the tail/body ratios of those two species.

I'm sure somewhere deep in the jungle there is a Shaquille Oneal version of a salvadorii or komodo that shatters all previous records. Record breaking lengths for reptiles is always exciting news to me, like that salt water croc recently which I believed passed away after being taken into captivity :-/

That saltwater crocodile is a good example. It was well within the expected maximum length for saltwater crocodiles. It was a record in that, while it was still alive, it was the largest in captivity, but it wasn't the maximum sized saltwater crocodile ever found.
However, at 6.1m it was also well short of the '8m' often claimed maximum length. It was the equivalent of a 3m croc monitor, whereas the 8m claimed maximum would be the equivalent of the claims of 14 foot croc monitors.
