I might be receiving an adult Ball Python with its setup, which was born in 2006, from a friend that's moving. How would I go on about sexing it? Where do I take it?

Most BP breeders can sex adult snakes, it's not something you should try on your own without a really experienced person there to assist.
Or, you could take it to a vet.

Use a probe kit and lube. As said above get someone else to show you how as you can damage the sex organs if you get carried away.

I was gonna suggest dinner and maybe a movie, that would usually work when i was in college.....then I read the other suggestions and they actually made more sense :)

Haha, you guys are silly :). For those of you that own BP's, how are they as pets? I've only had two in my life, one was a normal female and the other was a spider male, both really young. I got rid of them because they were literally pet rocks.. This Ball Python however, is a pet of a friend of mines so if I get it, I'd have to keep it forever. I have a burm and a retic and boy are they a handful...

We have five BP's, an adult we've had for a few months that was a mess when he came to us (bad sheds, retained eyecap, respiratory infection, thin, etc), and four others under a year old. I wouldn't call them pet rocks, though all are pretty laid back and very tolerant about being handled. They're the snakes you pull out to show people with no experience handling one that they can be a lot of fun.
The adult BP is one of my favorites to wear if I have work to do at home here on my computer. He's about 4' so he drapes comfortably across my shoulders and is content to hang out there.

I second this. I have an adult BP and he is awesome. He is currently living him my home but in the past I've had him as a classroom pet and he was awesome for that as well. They are all around awesome snakes IMO.

Our BP is a pet rock, well actually a pet shoe box. He sits in his shoe box for days until he's hungry, shows up, feeds, retreats and I have a shoe box again.
Now my "oddball" snakes are a lot more fun.
I've got 8 Ball Pythons and the majority of them are a little "rock-like" until they are out for a few minutes and then become pretty active and will explore or just hang out with you. Most of them that will be more active are the ones used to being handled the most.
However I find the ones that are pretty new to being handled will ball up and be a bit more shy but honestly after handling and having them out they will get more active over time. Just what I have noticed with having babies and watch them grow up :)
Ball pythons rule! :D

Never discredit a thread because it may be helpful to someone in the future.
Besides, you may be swayed to purchasing a ball python now. It's like the dark side...we not only have cookies, but ball pythons too.
