I heard somewhere it's down to stress not sure how true that is. But my boa when I first got her did it twice the first 2 feeds and that was when I was feeding in a separate enclosure, I soon changed to feeding in her own enclosure and she has not eaten one tail first since. But at least he ate it.:)

He is a ravenous eating machine. Thats why he did it. Couldn't wait to find the right end first :)

Thanks. Yeah he just grabs it and starts swallowing. Doesn't spend 10 minutes checking which end is which like my boas do. Not even 10 seconds ;)

i cut the tails off the rats for my female Diamond,as she faffs about for over an hour trying to eat backwards, then gives up and i have to re heat and offer the prey again
so off with the tails and its eaten in a few minutes
imo its amazing how stupid snakes are at times:D
your Jags staying nice and clean as it colours up,he's going to be a cracking adult mate

Thanks. His yellow is keeping nicely. You can see he is getting a hint of green tipping on his back scales but fir the most part he is all yellow. Still a bit of a wild one with the occasional nip.
I am going to breed him next year. I may if all goes well pick up another adult jcp female.

I was once told that eating their food butt first was a sign it wasn't large enough, but I don't put much into that. Every once in a while mine get in a hurry to eat and eat butt first, no matter the prey size.
I absolutely LOVE this guy!

Thanks. We love him too! Thats a small rat not a wenned pup. He gets a good lump going.

LOL my milk snake gets f/t small mice and he's a very enthusiastic eater. For some reason last night he tried to start in the middle middle of the mouse, then he let go, grabbed the tail, and started dragging the mouse around inside his feeding tub. Eventually he stopped and went for the head, but he had me in stitches watching him for a few minutes.
I swear if he had to survive in the wild he'd starve to death!
