hi all,

I know that deep soil substrate is best for monitors, but many people say I should not feed the babies on that due to impaction. Is that true even with proper basking temps and humidity and burrows?

Soil is the only safe substrate to swallow. In Daniel Bennett's field study, he found dirt in virtually all the fecal matter examined.

Littlefoot and Cera have been eating dirt with every feeding their whole lives.

all you need is a shovel, a rake, some buckets and a wooded place to get some fresh dirt.

Where in Canada are you located?

I'm in Edmonton, but I'm scared to get chemicals... no clue where to get soil that isn't polluted.

I do believe my ackies eat almost as much soil as food, I've not had an issue either. Organic from a store and tiny bugs from dart frog web sites.
