View Full Version : Keeping sides of bin locked

So, Kahless is getting bigger and bigger (actually starting to wonder if the breeder was right about him being male, LOL) so I don't think having a 5lb weight (from one of my hubby's barbels lol) sitting on the lid will work much longer.

Anyway, I have a Sterilite tub for him, the type with this kind of lid:

While there are clasps on the ends, there is nothing on the sides, and I'm afraid he may soon be able to push it up and squeeze out, since the plastic lid is fairly bendy/flimsy (you know how they are). What do you guys do to make sure your snakes don't pry the sides open? Any DIY ideas that don't look too ugly? I want to get this done before he gets any bigger. I don't want an escape ;)

Thanks!

Wing nuts are your friend, reliable and clean.

Sounds like a good idea, but know of anything that would be quicker to take off that you don't have to unscrew? or no?

For shows I don't have time for wing nuts... I use tape... but honestly its messy and can hurt them if it gets stuck to their scales...

I use huge binder clips on the sides and have been for a while on my bigger girls tubs. So far no escape incidences with them.

Binder clips are the way to go.. you can even take a thin piece of wood and place it under the lip of the bin to make the lid lock on more secure.
