What do I look for or how can I tell if a ball is a ghost morph?

The bottom snake in this pic is a pastel. When the prior owner of the top snake bought it the store owner thought that it was a morph but didn't know what kind. It was lighter in color than all the other ball pythons in the shipment.

I'm taking a shot in the dark on this. It may be a normal which is fine but the coloration is different from all the normals I've seen including our larger 4 foot male. This is a female by the way if that makes a difference.

Thanks,

Mike

It looks like a normal to me. There is a large amount of variation among normal ball pythons.

Yea is a normal, normals have such a large variation, which is what a lot of people like about them, but there are no ghost traits at all in that snake.
Is a nice coloured normal though.

Note the blushing and faded overall appearance

the original posters last pic does have a pastel in with it, or was you talking about mine?

As it would have been nice to carry the pastel gene aswell, but no, is just a standard green ghost. The green ghosts look different to orange ghosts.

Ok... that's what I was wondering. There are so many morphs for ball pythons that I wanted to make sure.

Thanks guys!

You look for a reputable dealer. They don't really exist on craigslist or pet stores.

I've got a source for a good dealer now. I knew there were issues when we discovered that Colt, the snake in question is really Colt"ette". LOL

I'm really not too concerned with what she is, she's an awesome and loving snake. She has a special place in my heart.

Now, as for the pastel, what morph would you all recommend we breed with him to produce something nice? He's a pastel as was mentioned. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Mike

Lots of morphs out there to combine it with. Depends on your personal tastes. I could spend the next hour listing out pastel combos...

Well, I want something that stands out and really pops! I figure if I'm going to be breeding these guys, might as well do it right. And yes, I'm new to this. My daughter is the one that wants to get into breeding snakes.

The hard part is going to be convincing her that we have to sell them
