Hello, I am wondering if there is anywhere I can pick up some basics to playing the electric guitar (I have a good Japanese copy of a stratocaster, and aria stg series) either online or some good, cheap books/videos? I really wanna play some punk tunes...
Also, who in here is in a band? love to see some pages...
by the way,

Began playing guitar when I was 8 years old. Used to play bass in an all-girl punk band when I got older.....lol.....don't think I can play to save my life anymore though  Haven't picked up my guitar or bass in years now... someone's been prompting me to get back into it though... who knows... maybe I will?

i've been playing guitar for 8 years or so. maybe 7.. hmm .. i dunno. imho, best way to start is pick your favorite guitarist and mimic them. learn their songs, and their style. Once you get the "playing" of the guitar down, such as the movements, the position of the guitar and where all the strings are. it's time to learn scales and the mechanics of good guitar playing.you said Electric Guitar. If you want to learn how to play "guitar" then get an acoustic as well. if you want to learn how to play WITH the guitar, just to impress people then yea get a tab book and go to town with it!

if you can afford them. lessons are always good . I took lessons for while in the beginning and it was great. if you just want to know songs or the basics thats what they will teach you. if you want to delve deeper then a good teacher will. before funds stopped coming i was learning all kinds of great techniques and modes and how to use them them and all kinds of scales, tunings and technique and styles. if you can get the basics of a powerchord, and maybe a few others to throw in the mix , some octaves then you can throw together a punk tune. But all the good punk bands have elements of other music and their own definition. me i'm in a band. We're just having fun . no shows or records planned. not even a name yet. We have a name that is tentative actually. Ghost in the Melody. we have some cool heavy stuff and some angst ridden oldschool punk suff and then some really nice distorted acousic guitar stuff. this is the first time I've ever had fun in a band.
