View Full Version : Brand new JCP, swollen cloaca, thoughts?
Alright, so my newest addition arrived at 1:10 am this morning (Newfoundland time) about 37 hours late due to the fog being so thick at the airport that planes could not land. Normally it would be a quick 5-6 hour flight from Toronto to St. John's. Thankfully he's in good shape except that his cloaca is a little swollen and a bit crusty. He doesn't mind me touching it or massaging the area, or at least he doesn't get defensive or pull away. He's active and curious and quite nice to handle. I have been soaking him to see if that helps. I've researched a read up on the internet and have seen several suggestions but I figured that perhaps a couple of pictures would help drum up some conversation and tips? (He's going to the vet one way or another. All my animals take a trip to the vet when I get them)

I do not know what that is. Vet is the best thing. What troubles me is that it was sent that way. Obviously the seller knew of this problem. Was it disclosed to you before the sale? If not I would let the seller know about it. Who sold it to you?

I could not find the thread but recently a member on here had that same issue and their snake passed away. It was a tumor of some sort. I hope thisbis not the case for you. The vet is the only person that will be able to give you an accurate answer I am afraid. Good luck. I hope it's just a lymp of urate.

Hope you get it figured out, thats one nice looking snake. Good luck
He is a beautiful snake and I'll get this sorted out. My initial thoughts were that it could have been something that had happened during shipping such as a bowel movement while being too cold, or rough handling of his package. But having gotten a better look at it I'm more inclined to think it was an improper popping for sexing, or impaction. It's not becoming any more swollen, though, thankfully.
The earliest vet appointment I was able to get was this upcoming Wednesday (13th). I made appointments with 2 separate vets and am on the lists for openings due to cancellations. Hopefully one comes up.
I have let the seller know of the issue. I got him through Port Credit Pets in Ontario. I was provided a picture before purchase etc... My biggest wish is that actual breeders would be more willing to ship. Whenever I decide on a species and begin contacting people (and their websites state that they ship to Atlantic Canada) they are always quick to respond to my initial inquiry and then I never hear back from them after I mention shipping. Not even an email saying that they won't. So, I'm left to purchase through pet stores or wholesalers.

it looks like it may be a partial prolapse, but its hard to say for sure with those pics
if it's a prolapse he will need a trip to the vets
