finding the right bins

So i have been looking everywhere for the 2221 bins and i cant find them specifically anywhere around here, im even having trouble figuring out exactly which bin it is.

to keep anything like a ball or kingsnake (for a size reference) can any of my canadian brethren point me to the bin i would need from a canadian store like home depot or crappy tire?

i found this thus far is this adequate? or is it too flat

How much are you willing to pay? I LOVE 2221 rubbermaid bins and they are what I use right now, but if I was ever going to make another rack I'd probably use Iris tubs. They have a smooth bottom so are so much easier to clean.

ok, im looking for a cheap option, if i fall in love with a snake i dont have a glass house for i just want to know i can find a bin to keep it in until i have one.

the exact bin doesn't matter, you can get bins a little larger then 2221s. For canadian stores, heart and rossys tend to carry them, so do a few supply stores.

Those rubbermaids have been become increasingly more difficult to find.

I use 28qt sterilite. Similar dimensions to the 2221. You'd have to check the ID number for the sterilite though.

Funny you reference the 28qt Sterilite. I have a few I keep around. They can be used for many things. Pretty essential bit of kit for your toolbox.

ok so with the impending expo coming i went out and bought some bins to house snakes in for a while, i bought these

the big ones are 24x16x6 and the smaller ones are 15x12x3.5, im going to run some heat cable through that shelf to heat them all and using some towels to cover the tops to help them feel a bit more secure. and i made sure the handled lock onto the lid to prevent escapes.

did i do ok?

Yup. Good buy with an expo looming. Don't forget to stock up on gauges. Were you planning on setting them up to cycle for a bit to dial them in prior to the expo.

It's nice to get them stable for the temp and humidity range you were shooting for.

the heat cable will be installed tomorow, i will tweak it to get the right numbers, as for humidity i dont know what is going to be going in them yet so im just going to mix it up and make sure i can get one high and one low, and yea im gonna stock up on guages at the expo

im going with an open mind, and a guy who knows a lot more than me about different breeds and species. one of the few things i know i want for sure is a black mexican kingsnake. other than that, maybe a corn or 2, baby hognose. im going to see what's there and see what i fall in love with.

I'm thinking about MBKs too. Why not get a boyfriend for your Kenyan? Have you seen the paintjobs on the Durango Mountain Kings? Nice.

yeah im not really interested in breeding the sand boa, they kinda weird me out, them and blood pythons seem to be the only ones that i dont instantly love. im going to keep her and raise her up and see if they grow on me a bit more now that i have one. but admitedly she was a bit of an impulse buy.

Dont forget when you put the holes in not to do very many if you want to hold humidity in.

For animals that need a lot of humidity, you put the holes more toward the top and not many. For less humidity you can put the holes closer to the bottom (for little babies, be careful none of the holes are big enough they can get out). I use a cheap soldering iron to poke holes in my tubs. It's cheap, simple, and effective.

I'd start with a few holes and go from there. You can always add more to the tubs....
