This week Living Gems starts profiling, for the first time in almost two years, some of our next generation of up-and-coming breeders: those animals we expect to mature in time for either the 2014 or 2015 seasons.

First up is Jasper. Jasper was born in August 2009. She was acquired for her substantial bullseye patterning, one of the strongest examples I have ever seen. We named her, as with all Living Gems females, after a semiprecious gemstone.

Here is Jasper in June 2010, in her first formal photo session after she arrived at Living Gems. Note the contrast between her dark face and light silvery eyes, as well as her strong pattern, which was much more obvious as a baby than an adult:

Here is Jasper as of August 2012, on the occasion of her third birthday. Note she had to be gently restrained for the outside shot, as she did not like the idea of just sitting still when there were all these new scents to explore.

Currently weighing in the 1500s, we fully expect Jasper to join our breeder ranks for the 2014 season.

Beautiful, you should definitely get more head shots. I'm curious to see a bigger and better photo of her silvery eyes :) Very nice girl for sure.

Alright! Awesome. She sure does have a darker head compared to her body. Do you think she will pass that on through her future clutches?

Thanks all! I have no idea if she will pass it on, but I certainly hope so. It would make for a distinctive new look that really shows off the species' iridescence!

Any chance you'll have babies available this year Cliff? Your specimens make it hard to temper my BRB need.

I certainly hope so, Medicinhed! I just saw a tail-wrap this weekend, in fact, from one of our five pairs. I'm trying not to pace yet, but it's going to be a long wait until baby season! ;-)

And thank you for the compliment!
