didnt know where else to post but me and my mate (sws) have two sugar gliders one neutered male and one female. we have are getting a loft bed an was wondering if we could convert the bottom area into a cage for our two sugar gliders and if any one has any tips or tricks for this. the reason we are going to do this is so they have a much bigger area for them to excersize in at night. we plan to add tree branches, hide and various other toys, etc. any and all suggestions are welcome. thank you.

You can make anything into a cage.. Its all about safety though. I would research cages and look at how they are constructed. Keep your wire spaces ( coated hardware cloth would be a great product ) the same and think of how easy/hard it would be to clean. For a floor look into slide out dog crate pans and other items to make life simple. ( hope that makes sense to you)

i also heard they are noisy :P and nocturnal. nothing like a tiny gliding mammal chirping at you at 4am xD
if only it was only chirping the noisy buggers.

Tight bar spacing so they don't slip out and lots of room are great for them. Also make sure things are easy to clean, they are messy! Your idea sounds great, its nice to see someone put them in something roomy so they can explore.

At the zoo we made an enclosure for two gliders with 1/2 inch plywood painted with country garden theme and the front was a lexon sheet. The door was made from the rear through the plywood. I love the idea of the trays for easier cleaning. Having such a large area have you thought of reversing their "night" so that you are able to see more of their behaviors? We did this with day lighting during the evenings, worked really well. I wish we could have them here but they're illegal, which makes no sense.
i like the idea to now to only gather the stuff we need and see if kilala and chidori agree with it when its done.
