heated area size?

i think i went through this already a while ago but I'm not an elephant and I do forget. I was thinking the heat tape would cover about 1/3 of the bottem of the enclosures. thats like 18 inches for me which is like 6 inches of heat tape sticking out but oh well. I figure 1/3 is good as 1/4 seems too small for a 4.5 foot BCC. what do you all think?

Thats what i do for larger bodied snakes (dum's, balls), and 1/3 for slender (like BRB's and colubrids). Sounds good to me.
