I didn't know where to put this as its about several different reptiles but anyway. My Pueblan Milk Snake (who still doesn't have a name so fell free to give suggestions) is still not eating. I've tried leaving it over night and just feeding him smaller / little bit bigger. He refuses to eat and just slither away from the food whenever I offer it to him. He is doing well other than that. He also decided to escape yesterday but I found him within an hour f looking. Pablo my Crestie is still doing really well and isn't growing to much more as he is at just about full size. My tank in my wall currently has 2 green anoles, 1 brown anole and a house gecko because one of the green anoles actually drowned :( but I will have pictures of all of them up in the next 1 hour or so

Cool little crab.

Did you find out how your snake escaped? Sorry I forget, but how long have you had him and how long has it been since he ate last?

I've had him for about 2 to 3 weeks but he wasn't eating for the breeder before that too. Almost two months. And yea the cage was open a tiny bit at the top.

Ah, we'll that's not too bad yet. How old is it? (Sorry again as I'm sure there maybe a thread with this information already)

He is about a year old not sure about the exact age. And I know that I said I would post pictures a while ago of him but he moves so fast that it is impossible to get a good shot of him. Ill try in the next couple of days. Also doesn't help that I'm using my crappy phone camera.

Its tough to say much as this is a new snake to you. It could quite easily be that it just needs to get settled in before feeling comfortable enough to eat. I know colubrids dont go for as long without eating as big pythons and boas, but it still isnt long enough that its a major problem yet. What kind of ground cover do you have for him in the tank? How big is the enclosure? Have you been holding it/picking it up much? Does he come out and cruise around or does he stay in his hides the whole time?

I have aspen as he bedding which is decently deep because he likes to burrow. I don't know how big the tank is but it is definitly big enough. Even as an adult it should be fine for him. I haven't been losing him a lot because I want him to eat before I start handling him more. He stays in his hide quite a bit but he comes out and cruises around quite a bit too. I can post a picture of the tank in a bit if you want?

Never hurts to have pictures. ;)

Ya, I know you well enough that I figured the enclosure was plenty big enough, I was mostly asking just to see how 'open' the enclosure might be. If he was cruising around constantly its a good sign they dont feel secure in their enclosure. However, it sounds like he is acting healthy and if he isnt too skinny then I dont think Id be worried about him not eating for awhile.

Here is the tank...

With that enclosure I would suggest trying to cover the back and sides to help make him/her feel more secure.

Ok thanks I will try that as soon as I can. I have heard that covering them up is a good idea I jut always didn't really think of it when it came to my tank.

try braining, my mexican black went off food for about 2 months and i brained a pinkie and left it in his cage on a rock. i left the room and turned off the lights and it was gone within 20 minutes. now he is back to eating normal again.

Ya, I agree; covering the sides for awhile seems like a good idea. That's a nice big cage but for a new snake it would feel pretty exposed. I dont think you need to cover the sides permanently, just for the first few months while the snake acclimates to its new home. Once it's eating normally again, you can take down the cover one side at a time and it should be fine.

I always like adding in live plants too for extra cover. Have you considered it? You could just buy a potted plant and put the whole thing right inside. Gives them some further cover and increases humidity too, which is often helpful. Just a thought.

The problem with the live plant is I don't have a uv light so it will just die off.

Not at all. Plants require no UVB light, though UVA helps. Mostly its just about lumens, or brightness. Think about it, houseplants are all behind glass windows, which we know filters UV light. I have four enclosures with no light of any kind on them that have thriving plants. You just have to pick low light plants.

Ok well that won't matte if I can't find him because the thing that I put in the way of the crack he managed to squeeze past it. This happened around lunch yesterday that I found out about him being gone. I don't know if ill be getting another one if he doesn't come back. My parents really don't like them and I've been thinking and it's not going to be that terribly long until I move out and go to university or college or whatever.... Or just wait until I'm older even if I'm still living here because then I will have a stable job and stuff but anyway it won't be that long and my parents even say that by that time I can do whatever's I want in my room as long as they don't have to have any part in it. Because by that time I can buy every single thing by my self and drive by myself. (I do buy mostly everything by myself but once in a while they help) and I think what I'm going to do is just get one or two Leopard geckos in the tank (if I got two I would get females so that I don't get babies but of course this all depends. So anyway.... That's kind of my plan. Now that I am technacly in high school (grade 9 here is the high school) it Is getting a lot harder and I would also like to focus on my studies a little more and not have to worry about this stuff as much (as much as I would love too it does take up a lot of my time) but anyway I hope you guys understood what I was saying and sorry for the long post

Another update.... still haven't found him and I talked with my dad and he said that even if we found him he would like for us to sell him :/ I'm not too happy about the whole thing seeig as I just got him but I see where he is comin from. They don't like snakes and they make excuses but I think I can wait. What I am going to do is get one or two leopard geckos in the tank but anyway if any Canadians know of a good place to buy some not insanely expensive leopard geckos. (In between 50-100$) that would be very helpful. Anyway I will still be contributing to this community as I could never even think about leaving and that's what's going on. Also as I sai in the post above I really would like to focus on my studies more and I might not be contributing as much but I will be here and I think after the leopard gecko's ill be done for a while. In less I can handle it and I am still doing well in school then I might get more but right now school is the most inportant and if I have risk what I love doing a little bit I will because in the long run school is the most important.

Im sorry man, that sucks. I hope you are able to find him soon.

Sounds like a good attitude you have though. Like you said, get yourself settled in a few years and you can come back to it. Then you'll be an addict like the rest of us, with enclosures in every corner you can fit them in. ;)

Exactly haha I'm not pleased with the situation but I know it's what should be done and with the having to get rid of the snake part wen if we find him I'm not too happy about that but you know what I'm done fighting for one snake when there eventually just going to have an excuse to get rid of it anyway.
