View Full Version : How long is okay to leave thawed prey?
BRB usually eats overnight. Left F/T mouse in usual spot. Still there today. How long is it okay to leave it in there before it starts to spoil?

I don't leave it longer than 12hrs.. After that I toss it out.

I also throw it after 12hrs. If it has not eaten it by then it is not going to eat it after another 12hrs. Try again in a few days with a fresh one.

I don't re offer prey a few days later. I re offer on the next scheduled feed day. If my snake eats every other week normally and they refuse food, they have to wait 2 more weeks until feed day again. Offering prey to often can cause stress to the snake and a waste of prey.

if i leave prey in overnight,i take it out the next day as soon as i get out of bed
prey starts to go off fast inside the heat of a tank mate
if he does not take it,i would wait 7 to 10 days, before offering to feed again
cheers shaun

I agree with the other posters -- toss this one, and wait a week before trying again. Hopefully next time it will be gone!
