Snake on lap.

Hi guys , this is me sitting with my snake , he seems to like laying there without a care in the world .When he was younger , he would go past me , and now he would lay there all day if i had time .I know that snakes are not that kind of pet , but wondered , is there anyone here that sits with there snakes . Yep, we have lap snakes. Most of ours love to just hang with us. Our pythons especially though.

How do you tell he does like it or just doesn't care and tolerates you? How do you know what your snake does isn't just him being a snake?

Honestly, this stuff needs to be reported scientifically if it's TRUE because you'd win a nobel prize guaranteed.

I don't pet mine. There is the BCI who doesn't mind my lap. I don't have to restrain her, she just rests there, body relaxed and breathing slowly. But I think I'm more or less the next convenient basking spot.

The rest of my snakes would be all over the place. My CA king does a cloverleaf pattern with me in the center if I let him go. A few times he returned to poop on me. Not sure what that means. I normally don't let him roam, but he is so active that I just had to try a couple of times to find out what he'd do. ;)

I have kept reptiles for 20 years ,and have watched my reptiles up close . I am a animal, reptile lover and DO NOT false my snake to do anything . That is what the thread was about . When he is out of his viv , he will come over to me and rests on me , at his own choice , i pet him and he just lays there relaxed , i`am sure its only for the warmth !! I have had him for 15 years , i`am sure he is relaxed around me by now . Do you follow ?

I dont understand you , and you are just wanting to wind this up . What is wrong with a snake that wants to hang out , there are plenty of times he does not want to be touched or handled . I agree with that , and i have read about this in recent times. As you say , they are doing more research now .

I do not see snakes differently , if you can not understand everything i have been saying , then there is something wrong with you. Yes i worded it wrong at start , but now have set the record straight.

Yes but no one is writing one :( It seems that more research is done on mammals & birds than reptiles. I mean they only discovered that varanids have venom in what, 2006? How did they miss THAT all these years?

The problem with snakes is that they are rather difficult to read. They are very alien compared to us, no legs, no ears, their behaviour is quite different from other animals. I think most animals are more intelligent than we give them credit, they are always surprising us.

I know that the brain size = intelligence is a myth (for the most part), considering that mice can be trained to do all kinds of tricks and have the ability to figure things out, yet some animals with larger brains don't *seem* as intelligent.

Even my FISH (an animal that most people consider to be stupid) have memory and recognition ability. If they were wild, they would flee from a big creature such as a human, but they recognize that I mean food, and become especially excited when they see the red food container.

So if fish can recognize things, then surely we can't rule out that snakes can too? I know I overuse the "they recognize the feeding tongs" thing, but it does show some type of memory recall and recognition ability, no matter how primitive.

Anyways, I'm rambling. I could talk about this stuff forever.

i feed all my snakes in a tub that i clean out even if i clean with bleach and all that the moment my snakes go into the tub they go strait into feed mode tell they are done then i use the lid to block their heads so they cant bite me and pet them and after that they calm down and i can put them away without being bit.

My snake is a lap girl. She likes her head rubbed and she is spoiled. How do I know well I don't need ro methodically analyze my relationship with my scaly buddy but it is there. This was an animal I did not want but she and I have a bond I know it--- she pulls back from others for me to hold her. She can be hot as a firecracker when I get her out but she always gives me little squeeze hugs.maybe it isn't the snake who has problems bonding maybe its the owner!!! My girl isn't a dog but she isn't a thing either. She feels heat and has feeling why wouldn't she enjoy a warm cuddle??? I say your buddy loves you in her own way--- it is an animal --- I'm not a "Des Carteist"... He believed no animals had feelings!!
