Hi, I am new here. (The original person behind this screen name went to take care of her grandma a few months ago, so I have been watching her Boa).

Anyways, I am looking after her Hog Island Boa and I have grown quite fond of this little guy. I am thinking of getting one for myself. I saw a nice little female Hog that has caught my eye, but I was wondering about proper quarantine for Boas. (I have no intent to try to breed them one day, it just turns out that she is a girl, a boy would have suited me fine too)

I am reading some different info, so according to you guys, how long should the quarantine last? I will be able to house the snake on a different level of the house in a closed room. I am not a complete newbie with quarantines, as I have done it with birds. I assume it would be the similar with snakes, service the new animal last, wash up after, wash bowls in a different sink with different sponges, have a separate garbage for that room that goes strait outside, etc.

I also read that the set up for a quarantine animal should be kept to the bare minimum (I assume to check for external parasites?). I was wondering if this is needed for the whole duration of the quarantine, or can I give her a nicer set up after a few weeks or so if I don't see anything?

So, all in all, I guess I would just like to have an idea about how everyone does their quarantines.

Thanks for reading.

Here is a picture of her (at her current house, she is not here yet).

I'd stick to the basic minimal stuff for the duration.

Same here I would also use white paper towels so you can actually see parasites. (If it has any)

Same as above and i would quarantine for at least three months if not six :)

Do you have other snakes? If not the quarentine is kind of a waste of effort. No other snakes = nobody to pass illness to.

Thanks for the replies. I will make sure that I am very careful for the first 6 months at least.

Terranaut, yes I have another snake in the house, a male Hog Island Boa.
