Hi, you have some beautiful monitors in really nice condition, well done for that!
I`m not saying you`re a cissy, but what`s all the protection about with the V. glauerti?? ;)
Any signs of breeding behaviour in the salvadorii, and how long have you had them all?

I always start trust building with my hoodie on, thats my way. The one in the video is the only one that comes to my skin but all prefer the hoodie I'm guessing as it's easy to grip to LOL.
Salvadorii have matted a number of times, first time female produced 5 infertile eggs. Second time round she produced 10 infertile eggs (though i thought 4-5 was good) The last time I put them together female attacked the male and got a nasty bite back for her aggression towards him. I will introduce them again but once the weather is much warmer as this effects my enclosures ambient temps.
I had the current pair of salvadorii just over a year and the rest, the kims however I not had long maybe two months. I got both salvadorii ar around 3ft total length females 6ft males males over 7ft he has grown 4ft ish in 12 months which is not bad

O.k, your excuse for wearing basically armour plating to feed the smallest monitor is accepted. At least if it doesn`t work they won`t know it was you hiding under there....
When she laid the eggs where were they deposited?
Yes, that`s good growth in a year.

When she laid the eggs where were they deposited?
Yes, that`s good growth in a year.
First time all over the place. I offered an area 8ft by 4ft by 3-4ft deep of moist bark/compost. She made a large borrow around 2ft deep and 3ft long and only attending this borrow for days just seemily to check it but days before she laid temps outside dropped ALOT which in turn made my ambient temps 5-10'c lower in her enclosure mainly overnight. She then made loads of other small holes and ended up scattering the eggs. No heating of the substrate was offered as it was 28-34'c ambient temps day and night prior to the outside weather change wish i did now as i swear she was happy with it until the weather change.
second time round. i offered 4 x differant 110l bins filled with differant stuff and 1 x nest box all heated this time. She entered each one only once or twice but not one was even clawed (i had ipcam on record so missed nothing) she choose to lay the eggs in the bark/compost mix between the nest bins, same substrate as offered first time round, though nowhere near deep enough.
I clearly have not got what she likes right yet and will continue to try others this year. Due to move her enclosure soon so to allow me more space for differant nesting options. Any ideas greatfully taken onboard

Hi, a handsome looking Tree goanna (Varanus varius)..... The enclosure is only temporary, the owner has a relatively large fish tank in the process of being furnished....
I hope Miss Aja Michelle will not comment just yet (Thanks, Aja)!

Hi Josh,
I` m not sure what you mean? The monitor is only 115cm ToL just now, the tank is over 130cm L, he`s only been in there a few days.
As far as the fish tank, it`s 180cm plate glass which I`ve recently learned is great as far as insulation goes (doesn`t offer much in the way of "privacy", though).
Remember this is in Oz, so the conditions are pretty much natural as far as temps/humidity go.
Ah, sorry I suppose I shouldve deduced its in Oz, in which case it isnt so much appalling but just rather small. Looks like pretty tight quarters for such a wide ranging monitor!

Hi, as far as I know, though I haven`t been in contact with the artist for some months, he is still doing this work. He was willing to do any species, the pieces are one-offs. I can give you details of how to contact him if you`re interested? He lives in Adelaide, South Aus, so the shipping will be quite expensive.
The Lace monitor piece weighs around 10kilos if I remember rightly, not sure if it`s been sold.

Isn`t it just brilliant though, you should see the Perentie he did and the Bearded dragons, you really cannot tell they aren`t real. He`s self taught, too. I thought I was good (in fact I was convinced), but he beats me by a mile (I only do wood carving). I asked Aja not to comment because I`d already told her about it some time ago!
If I`m not mistaken that was the first time he`d tried a monitor, even close up the detail is fantastic (it`s clay, though the log is real wood).

not scientificly no but from what i can tell yes. Nasher (female) who is brave and fearless of humans, rarely ever bleeds from the gums and when she does it's tiny amounts for no more than 1 day (normally only few hours) so i put that type down to tooth changes as it's not in the same place everytime.
Now onto Dasher a nervous, easyly spoked male (less so now he so large). He shows the same signs as Nasher every now and then BUT the big differane is he threatens me very often, normally when he close to the glass and i suddlenly appear in his view. When very close i can see blood leaking out of the middle of his bottom jaw. This clearly is a "high level" threat/warning directed at me. I'm guessing it's a mix of venom/blood/syliva. On some instances it drips from his jaw but most commonly it's only small amounts which disapear as soon as he licks his lips unlike the tooth change type which is still clearly there when he licks his lips.
thats my take on it though i'd love a scentist to check if it is infact a form of venom or merely just blood

Someone asked about BLEEDING GUMS so here is Dasher show the type I class as tooth change bleeding gums. IT's very differant from the "threat bloody saliva type which only comes out one spot on each side sadly i am yet to get a picture of this which mouth open but a few with it closed.

I have the odd exotic mammal, (used to have many more mammals) mammals well are cheaper to keep and buy but they not as interesting as monitors. thought this newbie is for my partner more than me she wanted something very large that "can" be tamed (she hopes)

Hi, it`s perfectly normal, as you will probably already be aware, the teeth are set into the fleshy gums to a degree, and when they bite their prey they can bleed slightly.

Yes I'm very aware of it, just wanted to show others it in more detail than normal. They bleed anyway every so often in differant areas due to new teeth. The part im interested in most is the "threat" type my male shows now and then, provening this is a type of venom would please me LOL
