Do Retics hiss?

I've seen BCI's and burmese hissing and getting aggressive but just out of curiosity I was wondering if it's something Retics ever tend to do?

I'm sure they are capable of it, but do they really do it much?

They can, I can't recall an exact instance of mine ever hissing though. It just depends on the individual.

Yeah I figured as much... from what I've seen it looks like retics can hiss but they don't do it as often as some other species, usually choosing to strike (or attempt to strike) as their main form of deterrence.

Correct me of I'm wrong, that's just from what the few instances I've seen...

yup. he hisses when i pet him, hisses when i open his cage, hisses when he moves...and none of it is aggressive. he just...does!

haha, you don't even know xD last time i had him out, he did NOT want to leave the chair i had him on, and he took the jacket with him xD and then wouldn't let go of that

Yeah, whoever the guy is on that video, he's a bit of a douche. I saw the 8 thumbs down on that video. It was a hell of a hiss though, gotta admit.

I don't own a retic yet (waiting for eggies to hatch for one now! :D ), but I hear of retics hissing all the time. Sometimes they mean business and sometimes they don't.

My carpet hisses a lot when she gets to moving around. I call it talking. :D It's nothing more than a huge exhale of air, kind of like when we sigh. She's not grumpy or anything. She's actually the most friendly animal I've worked with. I think it's due to using a lot more energy being active and she breathes harder with the activity.

My burms are pretty talkative when they're full of food or in shed. These times it's more of a don't mess with them thing. They're grumpy and just want to be left alone. I can pet them and even get them out and once they're out they're fine. I watch their body language to see if it's bluff and bluster or if they are actually giving me a warning. If I feel it's a warning, I leave them alone and wait until later to either work with them or get them out for cage cleanings.

They also talk a good bit when they're out roaming. Again, it's more like a sigh, like my carpet does.

I haven't noticed any of my other animals doing it.

I look forward to seeing if my retic hisses and if it's all bluff or more of a defensive issue.

My sunfire hisses all the time! When I pick him up, if he smells food, if I open his cage and most of all when I touch his tail. He HATES having his tail touched! He pretty much hisses just for fun though. He's only bitten me twice and that was when he was a little 4 footer.

Your boy seems like the complete opposite of my girl. I've never heard Esmeralda hiss, but she bites. Goes for the face too. :rolleyes:

They will do when they want to be left alone, some are just quite vocal anyway, my bigger tiger female always has a slight hiss when she is out, but apart from when she is gravid she never strikes. They do tend to have more of a bite first hiss later response then burms or boas though.
