I'm able to get a Boamaster 48 x 30 x 18 melamine cage for $200 and it comes with a RHP already mounted and wired.

I see the cage is $140 online but with shipping thatd come to around 200 so buying used I'm paying retail price but it comes with a RHP.

Does this seem like a good deal? and is there a chance even though not visible that there could be problems within the melamine?

Not really looking for anything temporary so I might have to pass up on this.

I have my burm in one, they are good for snakes as long as you completely seal them up.

I'm assuming boamaster already seals their cages? It's been used by two snakes so it might be too late..

Also would one RHP be enough heat?

For what? All relative to what you're keeping for the RHP question.

Also, I recommend buying brand new. Find the money so you have the enclosure longer. I prefer not to buy something from someone else so I know the history of the item.

Well I was thinking a Guyana BCC but if I remember clearly they need belly heat, other then that probably a FWC.

Depends on the size of the RHP. Get a good thermostat. What temps do RHP's get to without any thermostat? I would suspect it would work.

I'd be purchasing a herpstat with this, it's 30" deep and the RHP covers what looks like at least 20".

actually, i believe that melamine does not soak in moister... the hard plastic covering wont allow the moister to get into the actual wood. thats why alot of people use melamine over normal wood enclosures..

Boamaster melamine is already sealed, though you do still need to seal the edges once you've put it together. That's why I'd only use it for snakes. Lizards will tear up the seal, and the melamine will be destroyed.

Unsealed melamine soaks in moister, swells and warps its a good temporary cage

i corrected the quote above :)

All my vivs are melamine, including my GTP's at 80% humidity. The inly vivs i had an issue with were secondhand ones that i stupidly DIDNT seal the edges in :)

Thanks Rob...

I seal all my cages with silicone on the corners, and edges before i put them all together.

My BRB is in a melamine cage as well with high humidity

They will still eventually be destroyed. The wood was never made/treated to withstand the high humidity constantly like our reptiles need.

How? The moisture has no way to meet the "wood" of the melamine panel unless the "plastic" coating is damaged or the edges arent sealed.

The one that i didnt seal only lasted about three months or so but the ones that are sealed are doing great.

I honestly don't know how. All I know is I've seen destroyed melamine enclosures. I presume partly due to simple "wear and tear".
