Over the past couple of years I've been pretty lucky with my reptiles being bought for pretty good prices. I'm curious to see what other people have "scored" for a good price/deal on their reptiles or anything else...

My best deals:

-Pair of Pewter BP's for $400
At the time females went for around $1,000, and males around $800. They were pretty small for being 3 months old at the time and have been growing slowly, but are very healthy and constantly eat even though they were originally fed live when I found them. The female is growing faster and lightening up with age. I look forward to breeding her in the future.

-Lesser Male for $80
I've noticed that they usually go around $200 here for a male. The past owner was so terrified of this little guy that he couldn't even sleep. It was easy to believe since his cage was filled with poop and excrement, and was really wet when we got him with the cage. Although he fed him all the time on live food making him a healthy and thick boy for a 4 month old. Glad I got him off his hands though!

I'm hoping these prices aren't too good to be true, but so far these guys have been amazing.

-Albino Striped California Kingsnake (plus the tank she was in, two hides, water bowl, and UTH) for $65
The previous owner got her from a reptile show, but I saw the same morph online for $125. The girl took decent care of her, but she got a ball python and decided she liked its calmness better than the feistier king. The past owner was so terrified of this little guy that he couldn't even sleep....Wut? XD

I've recently got into larger snakes and a disabled guy I met was interested in snakes. I gave him a full set up 40 gallon breeder with clips, $20 habba hut, exo terra $30 water bowl, $30 heating pad, two large branches that the snake seems to like and a pastel ball python for $90.

Your deal likely tops anyone else's, so we can probably all give up now. :)

I have recieved an adult albino cornsnake with everything in recent memory and then turned everything over to someone who is really into cornsnakes for nothing as well.

I once gave a pair of really rare geckos away to someone who had more time than I did for cricket eaters. Easily 600 bucks worth of lizards.

My best was a 4-5ft long albino ratsnake for the price of the gas needed to drive out to pick him up and bring him home.

That's pretty good. It is always a nice bonus to get accessories with your new friend :)

And yes, the guy originally got him from a breeder friend of his for free but was too afraid of it to hold it or anything. Good deal for him but the fear doesn't exactly make it the best :P

Best "deal"? Most recently by FAR the male Pastel Crystal I picked up for $6500. Reason he was a "deal"? There are three in Canada and I think I have the nicest one.

The people who had her were looking for a herper to rehome her to.
They asked me at least 20 questions about beardie care and the woman looked at her husband and said " he's our guy". I asked how much for everything and she said just to promise to take great care of her until the end of her days. Then the started bringing our more and more stuff.I feel horrible about one thing. She gave me her e-mail to keep her posted on how Dex was doing and I lost the paper on the way home. Must have dropped it loading/unloading the van.

I looked those up, and I must say those are very beautiful. Too bad I am not into hots but if I was I would definitely consider the CBB Trimeresurus Puniceus. Not only is the colour nice but I love the shape of their heads :) Sweet deal!

I have a pretty decent female pastel, so I know what you mean as most tend to brown out quite a bit. Plus pictures never give them justice :) That's pretty good for being a year old along with a male pinstripe! I paid $175 for a year old pastel female alone :P

I've had a few freebies. I was given a female albino burm about six feet, and a nice enclosure for her. My husband isn't comfortable with burms, so it was only while we found a nice home for her. She'd been left behind when a tenant moved out, and the landlord had left her untouched (no water, food, power, nothing) for thirty days before she asked me to take the whole thing. She really had a nice temperament, it is really a shame the keeper felt the need to dump her like that.

I live in a college town, so I've come across free corn snakes, a beardie, king snakes, and a ball python in similar ways. A lot of them keep pets for a few semesters and dump them before moving. The feral cat population is crazy because of this. I generally keep the herps quarantined for a bit and move them on to other homes for free.

With snakes I pay for, I usually don't get absurdly good deals, but I've had great luck getting respectable deals by lingering around at the very end of the last day of shows, and making an offer to vendors packing up 'leftovers' on the way home. I can usually get an animal for about 50% of the show price this way. My husband is mortified of my haggling at shows, but it works lol.

Well it seems like you do a good thing with taking in a lot of "thrown away" animals. It's a shame that people are so willing to get rid of their pets so quickly, although I can understand the rules of dorms not allowing any kind of pet (if that is their only option). I made sure that I found a place that allowed my python to avoid that kind of decision. I couldn't do it anyways, I'm too attached!

I'd love to help people out with taking in unwanted animals but the lack of room is a big contributor to not being able to do so. A Burm is a large one for sure, I'd be on your husband's side with that as I am not yet comfortable with larger snakes, but keeping it until then is a good deed :)

since september 16, the day after my birthday i went into the reptile store to get lizurd fewd and saw him, I always wanted a snake but never was allowed to have one. Called husband, begged, and got him on the spot. I already had stuff at home to house, and bed a snake and extra lights. So it took me the better part of 2 days to legit build him a new cage. He was infested with mites and had an RI though :/

I learned on my feet with him. I got him and started my obsession with boas. It was easy to learn and very engaging to do so.

That's pretty cool, I got my first snake a couple of years ago because I've always wanted one and neve got any type of reptile during my childhood. So, I saved up a little bit of money and bought him from a breeder. I was pretty lucky as he was an amazing feeder, never bit me or anything, and was completely healthy.

I think with helping any animal get through an illness is extremely rewarding when you both get through it together :) I think a bond can strengthen when you show that you are truly trying to make life better for them. Good for you for finally getting one, I think you will have lots of fun and will have a great friendship with your pal! :D

Your boa is really pretty.

My guess it's a mix of things. Looks like BCI hypo with a Central American boa, I'm sure if they are still called that though. Centrals as I remember tend to have a lot of orange so that could be the influence.
