Why?? that animal is already dead, Rehabbing that lizard will just end in heartbreak. So it can die in peace? I'd rather spend the money and accept the heartache by taking an animal and allowing it to die in a good place in good conditions than let it suffer and die in terrible ones.

The issue is buying animals from irresponsible people feeds further into the industry and prevents these people from learning from their mistakes... they think (especially pets stores) "Oh that was easy to flip" or "I made a profit, let's buy another"...

I mean from regular owners. Since it was advertised on Craigslist, I would assume it's not from a pet store. And I don't know of anyone who'd buy a sav and a (poor) setup and then sell it for $30 just to make a profit (especially when they wouldn't even make one). Most people get reptiles like this and just decide they don't want it or can't care for it.

you would be surprised how cheap you can get a sav... but yes not likely there is a profit for this... but then again the 30 dollar price tag in itself is enough to rouse suspicion... it most likely requires a visit to the vet and the owner doesn't want to fork over the extra doe...

No vet on earth does lizard kidney transplants....
That animal's organs are shut down. I know that look, seen it too many times.
It needs to be put down.
The last two days are the worst, I lived it... the final phase is the eyes sink in and the toes swell up, then the bloody diarrhea.

Wayne I know this must really strike a nerve :(
It is too bad there are soo many people out there who don't care enough about their animals to research properly... :(

Obviously this person is a bad owner and this sav is in bad shape. That's not a secret. My point was that, even though it hurts to take in an animal that's probably not going to make it and watch it die, at least it can die in a place that's better than it was in. A final act of kindness is better than none at all.

I feel as though that is giving the bad owner an easy way out... why should another person have to take the burden of watching this animal die? It is going to suffer no matter where it is... why A) relieve the jerk of this burden
and
B) reward him for it by giving him money?!

If it were me id take it, give it a good week to a month then have it euthanized. Just so it could have a chance to be a monitor.

I did something similar with a 12 year old dog these people wanted to get rid of. They had it since it was a puppy. You know what I did when he started to die not even a year after I got him? Sent a nice long email and text message describing every single horrible detail of his death. And how much the vet bills were. I didn't use foul language, but let's just say the old owner sent back one single text message saying "I can't believe you would tell me all of that." to which I replied: "I can't believe you watched this dog suffer for years without ever taking him to a vet. Rot in hell. When I die, I know that Wilson's spirit is going to be waiting for ME, not YOU."

And this is exactly why my viewpoint is evolving to side with the naturalists......
Digging up eggs and selling the babies is POACHING. the only difference is the trappers who gather the eggs have permits.
I feel guilty for having mine, but I have to assume the mindset that if they were not here, they would wind up like that one.
Wild animals belong in the wild, and the pet trade in general disgust the daylights out of me.
I would advocate captive breeding programs, no problem there, but gathering wild animals for a dollar has to stop.

Booyah.Win. :) At least he got to enjoy a year, and that's what matters.
When I took my turtles in, I knew they probably wouldn't make it, and they didn't, and it hurt to watch, but at least they were in a decent place when they passed. And I proceeded to bitch out the girl who had them before me.
