I know that picture well.

Her name was Anna Savannah.

The guy who posted that picture swore she was a Savannah Monitor.

Let me go back and check his photo albums for some other angles.

He sold off his entire reptile "collection" years ago.

Yes, that's a Savannah. The add on Craigslist is probably a scam. That or the picture is for reference.

Edit: Definitely going with scam on this one, looking at the add.

OK, here is a picture of her next to her cage mate... Since he uploaded that album in 2009, I doubt that she's still alive based on the looks of her in this picture.

I am sorry I overlooked your post.

That monitor is sprawled flat to absorb more heat from the basking light.

However she is way overweight and that indicates improper husbandry.

He was a very active on the forum, but it was during a time when my Savannah Monitor was living under the same conditions. Just enough substrate to absorb some poop and make dust.

So rather than scold him for it, I would chat away all day about that all invert diet crap.

Now I have two that "look like snakes with legs" (I was recently told that) who are hyperactive acrobats that tripod every day and run at speeds I have never witnessed before with my own eyes.

In retrospect I can't believe how blind I was, why do the Varanids in the documentary films look so impressive, and all the captive ones drag across the floor and sleep all day.

It's not freaking rocket science. It's a box of damn dirt, simple common sense mandates that we need to give exotic animals the same environmental parameters that they have evolved to survive in.

This is true of many captive animals, they barely resemble their wild counterparts.

Keepers of many species need to open up their eyes and smell the coffee.

*applause* Couldn't have said it better myself! I wish there were more people like you in the herp world, Wayne. The passion you have for your animals is so apparent and so refreshing. People see those stupid youtube videos of these 'tame' animals and think 'oooh! look how cuddly! I'm going to get one!' and then the animals suffers and dies a slow painful death. Or the pet store looking to make a buck will tell the buyer improper care and not tell you that this animal will one day need IT'S OWN BEDROOM. That's how the Nile I rescued came into my care, and it's how 1000's of others like him are living. Just really sad, to be honest.

How big exactly should an adult monitor enclosure be? I'm not getting one anytime but years down the road when I have a stable job I might.

~MaggotDying of slow dehydration. A house is not at the proper temperature or humidity for a tegu... If it was, the house would be falling apart.

It really irritates me when I see tegu keepers letting their lizards simply live in the house without an enclosure... ugh. Especially when they post about it on a tegu specific forum and no one says anything about it. The tegu community I feel is a little behind in general care and husbandry.

The young man who posted the craigslist ad has apologized and asked for help.

He handled the entire thing with more maturity than anyone I have ever made contact with.

He subscribed to my youtube channel & is reading the web site and asking me questions.

I consider that a far bigger victory than getting the ad removed.

If only they all panned out this way.

I'm going to invite him to join the forum.

Why was he using fake pictures? and he actually does own a monitor?

He thought the picture was really cool, found it on a Google search.

Yes he does own a Savannah Monitor, He has changed his mind and decided to keep it.

He's young, we all make mistakes when we are young.

His willingness to learn and do what's right impresses me to no end.

Most young people are stubborn and refuse to listen, not this guy, he's been very cordial and apologetic.

The best course of action now is to help him and be equally polite.

Well.. that actually adds up.

Good to know and I hope he can give a proper enclosure for his monitor. He is in an apartment though so.. that could be troublesome.

does it really matter his age?Well, I'm less forgiving of someone my age than someone, like, 13. There's a big difference between the two, but both are "young."

I was still doing extremely impudent things well into my thirties.

May sound boring, but I have not even gotten a speeding ticket in almost 20 years now.

Had to lose my license once to learn about respecting my driving privileges.

There is a reason insurance premiums go down as we age, I carry 3 million dollars in auto insurance for less than many younger people pay for basic liability.

Growing up means making mistakes, that's how we learn and grow.

Well.. that actually adds up.

Good to know and I hope he can give a proper enclosure for his monitor. He is in an apartment though so.. that could be troublesome.

I was in an apartment and I managed to get a house and build an 8x4x4 within 2-3 months of getting my Sav. I am lucky enough that the humidity in Eugene stays around 50-60% so when he was in the 4x2x2 the humidity wasn't as big of a problem as it can be, once I changed the lights anyway.

So it definitely is possible to get a proper enclosure fast. I would consider myself to be quite lower class currently. I make about $14k a year and I was able to do it.

Also with the attitude the person seems to have towards it I bet they will put forth the effort to give that Sav a good enclosure.
