So I went into my local reptile shop to get snakeeeey food and there was this BEAUTIFUL tiger retic that was pushing 12 feet, I began to inquire about it before this out of regs airman burst in to the convo I was having and wants to buy it on the spot because... wait for it... He wants to scare his roommate. He has two other snakes- a boa and another retic. He keeps BOTH the boa and the retic in the same "cage" which is nothing more than a small drawer in a dresser. He plans to put now the LARGE new retic in with the boa and smaller retic.
I am distressed that he wants a snake just because its large to scare people. What kind of person does this. Not only is he housing two animals together that shouldnt be, he also houses them improperly and only uses them as a shock factor. I feel SO bad for the animals. Ugh. Not only does he not understand these snakes but he truly believes the worlds largest snake is over 43 feet. He insisted and insisted and swore that prehistoric pets had one that was 43 feet and had no eyes.
WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE. HOLY MOTHER OF GOD.
It gets better. To pack the snake what does he do.
a) put it in a box
b) put it in a bag
c) another form of containment
d) none of the above
If you picked a-c go stick a cactus up your butt you are that wrong. He had the sucker COILED around his neck, got in the car, and drove off. WITH A 12/14 foot python that was irritated.
He...DROVE...off...with...a...PYTHON...around his neck. WHo breeds this kind of stupid????!!!

This applies to anything that anyone collects in life.. People buy all sorts of things that could be dangerous and don't take care of them right like guns. You can't really get mad about it and you shouldn't go back to the store if they wanted to make a profit so bad they basically killed a very nice snake.

I know, I like the shop but I question how its run. They really are the only reptile people around. Ugh. I was disgusted, I wanted to buy the boa off of him just because I love them and feel so HORRID for it.

You could tell the shop owner that 1) he's a jackass and 2) if the guy comes back wanting rid of the snake, you'll take it.
I wouldn't deal with anyone who sold reptiles to people like that. We have one reptile place in the area, and I don't go there before of what a moron she is.

The guy that normally is there is really cool and very understanding but the owner is a tool, he only wants to make a buck.

Not as bad as a local place that may I say is an extremely nice shop but the new owner is a lying cheat who sells his reptiles overpriced and too young. There's been many reports of the animals he's sold dying within days and selling parasite infected wild caughts as captives.

Also, the care she provides is horrid. You should see the black and white tegu she keeps in a cage that can't be more than 3' x 2' x 2'. It's a screen front with newspaper on the bottom and a big light. That's it. The thing never moves or even opens its eyes. Just lays there.

isnt that cruel? cant they get in trouble for crueltyCruelty isn't really given any **** about here. I called the one animal cruelty officer we have on someone who was keeping their horse in horrible conditions with collapsed tendons, and he said, "She's fine. I don't see anything wrong here." This is a very rural, backwards area.

Sounds like a shatty store, to me... We recently visited a local store in our area, which is quite well known. Everybody sings their praises. We got there and the first thing I got to see was a Cobra being fed! Pretty awesome!!!
Their saltwater department was pretty impressive, gorgeous hard & soft corals!!!
Bird department, I passed. Birds suck.
Sounds like a good time, right? Nah. Some drunk as **** guy comes in with a pregnant 'Tic of some kind, in a very small plastic tote. The store employee and the drunk guy (who also had the word "Hair" tattooed on top of his bald spot) removed the scared and pregnant snake out in the middle of a now forming crowd of customers and their kids. One of those kids being MINE!!!
That thing started striking at anything and everything around it.
Being new to this place, I wasn't sure how their way of getting feeders for customers worked. Go ask an employee, right? I tried, ohhh I tried. They were all too busy with their personal phone calls and looking punk rock. Thirty minutes later I got my feeders...and a side order of attitude.
Just because a store has all the cool stuff you could shake a stick at doesn't mean you are married to it. Customer service and proper safety around customers goes a looooooooooooooong way with this guy. I'll never go back. Ever.

Dino you should have follow the guy home found his address and turn him in for animal cruelty. Having a snake that size not properly housed animal control can fine you and remove it. Not counting what local laws are for big snakes.
Now for stupid snake owners i got one for you.
A buddy contacted me and asked if i wanted a Yellow Anaconda? So i asked what size, sex, temperament, and price. He tells me the guy has a female he breed and it's due to have babies soon and that he on Facebook trying to find home for them in advance. He not sure of the price and give me the guy phone #. Why the hell would you breed a snake that can have up to 50 babies. When you can't sell them to anyone out of state. This guy is going to be stuck with a bunch of babies that he going to have to give away
or cull. This is why i never got a female and breed who wants to be stuck with a bunch of big sometimes aggressive snakes.

Let's just hope the python choked him while driving down a remote roadway at high speed with rows of trees on both sides of the street & the airbag malfunctioned.
Now that would be some epic karma.

That poor snake is doomed anyhow, at least the douche bag won't be around to buy any more.

Hopefully the snake was thinking "hmm how tasty"

It sucks but now a days most pet stores are all for the money and really don't care about what happens to the animal once it is out of their care. It is hard for me to walk into my local pet store and look at all the different reptiles and know think that 85% if not more will be going home to stupid, inexperienced people. Now I was once inexperienced as most people are when starting in a new hobby but I at least did my research and asked many questions. There aren't many people out there that actually take the time to take care of the animal correctly. They will do the bare minimum. It makes me sick to think that the retic went home with that guy. :(

I'm going to ignore you Kevin.
I think the lesson here is find new places for feeders. Plenty of local breeders I'm sure. Try the big classified sites...kingsnake and fauna and see if anyone is selling them locally.
I don't go into pet stores.

me either, I have a hard time keeping quiet in pet stores.
I have experienced pet store horrors as well, and do my best to avoid them.... Its a shame for the Retic hopefully the idiot will relinquish his snakes to good caring homes!
