My six year old red tail boa "Jake" passed away today. He regurgitated the rat he had on ate before christmas on news year eve. He wasn't acting right took him to vet who started him on an antibiotic Saturday. He seemed to be getting better. Woke up this morning he had regurgitated a clear mucus. I cleaned him up and he was acting fine, more like himself then he had since New Year's Eve. I was sitting on couch when I heard a noise in his tank. Went to check it out his body was contorting and twisting and a pink mucus came out his mouth. I got him out and tried to relax him. But he couldn't control his head and after about 15 minutes his body went limp and he stopped breathing. He was a loved member of our family. He will be missed.

sorry for your loss.

Can you please describe the housing you had?

Temperatures, humidity and method of heat will all be necessary to help better understand what happened.

Thanks.

along with infern, have you used ANY chemicals at all in or around his set up?
Pink means there was a small amount of blood, but do you know if it came from the lungs or stomach? Was it frothy or like just snot? If it was frothy it more likely came from the lungs. As the lungs fill with fluid they bubble in an attempt to get it out of the body, if it was from the stomach then it probably looked like some sort of ooze. I am sorry you had to lose your guy, I know it sucks.

The hot side temp was 80 to 85, and cool side around 70.

Humidity usually around 70. But was having some trouble this winter keeping it there.

No chemicals where around him.

The mucus was like snot.
