Hi guys , needing some help on a new viv. This tank you see here used to stand just over 5 ft tall , i have had it for about 18 years , i had lizards in there before the snake. Well anyway we cut it down recently so i could keep up the temps , and so i could put my tortoise table on top for extra heat, so it is now 3 ft L x 2 ft w 2 and a half ft H. I am not happy with it, my carpet is 9 ft long and wonder if it is to small , although i let him out when he wants. Could anyone give me an idea what i should be looking at. BTW the bulb was uncovered in pic , due to me cleaning the viv. Tracy.

Looks nice. As long as you get it out so it can get regular exercises that will work just fine.

Prsonally i would go 4x2x2 minimum, maybe 5x3x2 with him being a nine footer

too small IMHO
This is a 4x4x2 home made for cheap.
Sealed melmine with plexi front door.
RHP on top left.
stays about 75-80 on the floor and 95ish on the stool with about 80-85 air temp
Works great ,looks ...ok .

I did wonder , i have been looking at some 4 fts, but wondered if 2 ft in H would be ok. Tracy.

Thanks Terranaut , your viv looks great , and your snakes . How do you get your temps up at the top end , and what heating do you use ? Tracy.

i keep all my adults in 4x2x2ft viv's (they are all 8ft or under)

that said,my diamonds will most likely end up in 6x2x2ft viv's

coastals and diamonds can get a lot larger than the rest of the carpets

at 9ft i would most likely have it in a 6xx2x2ft,or at the very least a 4x2x2ft

imo 9ft is right on the threshold for a bigger tank,so either of the above would do

cheers shaun

Thanks for all your help, i will get something bigger , and i will still be able to keep my tortoise table on top. When the tank was 5ft tall , i used to keep a hide box at the top , as he grew bigger i took it out . when i get my new viv , should i still offer a hide box for a snake this size , and if so , does anyone know where i would get a large one ? When i look on line , the hides always measure up to small. Tracy.

I use radiant heat panels.

Super easy to install and safe. You can touch them while they are on.
It's mounted above the stool.

This is the one in my boa viv

Thats cool , have you got another pic of her. From what i can see , you dont seem to have hides , is it safe to say that they are not needed for larger snakes. I dont know if i should get one , once i get new viv. Tracy.

The T.table is 4x2ft , and i have a Horsefield Tort . The males grow to about 8 inches , so this table is ok for now , he is 5 inches. I will post a better pic. Tracy.

I had hides. Tried big, small. They just sit on them or flip them over. Here is Eva and Mac with my youngest son.

Wow ,what a fantastic pair of snakes you have there , real nice, and thanks for info on hides. I suppose that will be the case with larger snakes , they trash everything.:D Tracy.
