Hi All, have not posted in a while. Was in mourning after the sudden loss of my three year old sunfire retic Mr. Peepers. Still do not know how he died. Was completely fine one day and gone the next, no signs or symptoms of anything wrong. This is him with my daughter 5 days before he died.

He was awesome and we will miss him. Really was a very cool snake. I love all my pets, but it really bothered me when he just up and passed without warning. Made me question my care. Checked all of my enclosures and water. Cleaned everything and double checked temps and humidity. Nothing out of order.

Well enough of the sad news. Went to the reptile show today and was telling Bob Clark about the loss. He gave me a great deal on a new baby male retic. He can't replace my buddy Mr. Peepers, but I'm sure he will soon become my best bud, despite giving me a love nip when we got home. Here he is, we have named him Dr. Sheldon Cooper, lol... He is a genetic stripe het albino.

so sorry for your loss man. Ive been dealing with a sick boa and struggled on the option of putting her down or struggle to make vet payments. I did the vet payments and stuck it through. I love my pets too much idk what I would have done if I had lost her. I do hope you find the cause of his death and that it wasnt anything that is contagious. Both are pretty snakes. I hope you have fond memories of mr.peepers. Sometimes to move on you have to get a new pet, somehow it helps the grieving process.

That's sad. DId you give your enclosure a solid soak, clean and air out before the new one arrived?... like dino said... incase it's something contagious. Wash off all the items inside the enclosure too just to be sure.

Condolensces on your loss and best wishes on your new buddy :)

The new retic you got is awesome looking! Are you sure Mr. Peepers was 3 years old? Seems a bit small to be 3 years old.

I'm sorry, not sure why I put three, he was just over 2 years old. Got him as a baby. Yes, he actually died in September. I have cleaned everything and all of my others are thriving. I have talked to a vet and several breeders, not sure what happened. Could have been some sort of internal defect, did not appear to be infectious. The new little guy is in quarantine at the moment and settling in. I always treat all new snakes for mites and keep them quarantined for three to six months. I don't use bedding, all my snakes are on cage carpet or paper. He looked perfect, even when I found him dead. He was eating normally and defecating normally as well. Will probably never know...

Sorry for the loss of your buddy, Steve. My daughter's ball python recently passed this last week for reasons unknown as well. She had eaten the week before and her husbandry was spot on....dunno what happened. She was almost 2 years old. :(

Congrats on your new little buddy. Although he cannot replace Mr Peepers as he will always have a place in your heart and memories, your new guy is sure to give you new memories and hold a special place. :)
