Hey,
This guy is about 5 years old and I bought him from a friend who always referred to him as a "Platinum." I have not seen many Lessers that look like him, could he be a Plattie or can you even tell? Wish the photos could be better. He is very light, bottom half is almost white, yellows on top are delicate, distinct but not bold, and the overall color is almost a light olive green vs a tan. He is my only BP so far and in person he is a stunning animal. Thanks

Thanks guys, looked like one to me but not sure. Either way, I want to some females, perhaps a mojave or another lesser. Also, he weighs 1300 grams

Stupid question but what's the difference between the two?

I am no expert either. I believe the Plattie Daddy has a hidden gene that can make interesting things happen and an overall lighter appearance than the lesser platinum. The original Plattie Daddy came from Africa around 2000 an I think it was Ralph Davis who secured the first one and then bred It to a normal and produced the first lesser platinum. I do not understand the genetics completely, but a plattie can be produced by breeding its off spring to a normal, I do not know the %

To revise/correct my last post in regards to how to produce a Platty Daddy. I cut and pasted this from Ralph Davis' website: Platties are still only being produced from breeding a Lesser that is sired by Platty Daddy to a normal looking that is sired by Platty Daddy....or Platty Daddy x normal sib or Lesser.

DEFINITELY not a Platty Daddy. History lesson; back in the day, over a decade ago, when Ralphie first produced the animal we now call a Lesser, he called them Lesser Platinums. Over time, the Platinum name fell off.
The animal in your picture is a Lesser Platinum, or Lesser.
Also, you cannot produce a Platty Daddy by breeding a Platty Daddy to a Lesser. Only the hidden gene normal sib.
