As some of you know I had a corn snake for about 6 months and he recently passed. I'm pretty depressed about the whole thing but he seemed to be kind of wierd right fro the beggining. I recently found him in his cage upside down and was not moving. Anyway, to be honest I like kings and milk snakes a lot more than corn snakes now that I started to look at them more. I used to like corn snakes the best but now I really just can't bring myself to liking them that much. Other than the one I had I didn't really like any of the other ones so... I'm going to hopefully be getting a Milk or King soon. I know there are so many morphs for both and I am having trouble finding the morphs and how much they are. My price range is anywhere to around 100$.

They are pretty awesome but I have heard that they like to bite...A LOT. I could be wrong but yea. They are awesome. The other problem I am having is finding breeders in Alberta. I really don't like buying fro pet stores.

That bite wouldn't really hurt that much though.. My ATB would bite sometimes and he was an adult which still barely hurt at all.

Im sure there not all this way but i have heard most of them are. I have both a milk and king and my milk is extremely skittish. My king is very calm. If you want a little calmer I would suggest a king.

Yea I think it really just depends on the snake too.

A good first kingsnake is a getula or "common" king.
California King, Mexican Black King, Speckled King, Desert King, Eastern Black King, Eastern Chain King, Appalachicola Blotched King or Florida King.

I'm not familiar with what's available up there, but have you checked classifieds and such? The beautiful albino kingsnake I might get is one that the girl was selling on Craigslist because she decided she liked her BP better.

Do they have Reptile Expos up there? I always found an incredible selection at the local shows here in Ohio. It's like going to a colubrid candy store. One of my favorite colubrids, an everglade rate snake, was purchased at such a show for a whopping $15.
I'm not going to recommend anything in particular, because your choices are almost endless, and the snakes' temperament will depend on the individual snake.

I used to have a California Kingsnake. Very very easy first snake. He was great for me for about 3 years and then he began to hate me and love my dad more. Every time I would take him out he would bite me but with my dad he was perfectly fine. Great snake, he was a Lavender Albino California Kingsnake. :)

Myself, i love Gray Banded Kings. Mine has been extremely easy to care for, he is a monster eating machine, and has a great temperament. :)

Too be honest I love all of these snakes that you guys mentioned it all depends on what I can find as I said before. The expo's here are almost all ball pythons so its almost impossible to find anything else and also there is a lack of breeders in Alberta or even in Canada. I am fine with shipping but I can't even find a king and milk breeder in Canada.

My new Tangerine Honduran Milk is calm as can be. I think it all depends on the individual snake really (and how you handle them I assume). When I was searching for my first snake I found a couple corns to be very snappy and found a king and a couple milks that were very calm, so it varies a lot.

GarterPython said, They are pretty awesome but I have heard that they like to bite...A LOT. in response to Corey's suggestion to get a Honduran.
I have Hondurans, and only one of them is at all temperamental. As hatchlings, they can be somewhat snippy, but I've been able to train all of them out of that with very little trouble. The one that is still temperamental is a buckskin morph I got as an adult; he bit me a lot at first, but hasn't bitten me in several years, though he really doesn't like to be handled. My tangerines and hypo-tangerine are really easy-going; one adult female I take to schools and other educational events because she's so laid-back.
I've heard that some Cali kings are bitey, too, but in my experience, being bitey is really much more individual and not so much morph/species related with kings and milk snakes. I've handled many various kings and milk snakes that were just wonderful to handle.
Sometimes it takes time and patience to help them become used to Godzilla (you) handling them and learn that Godzilla isn't going to eat them. ;)
