Do any of you know of anyone in the Boston area that would be interested in adopting a three year old female iguana. I just got an email from a gentleman in Boston trying to rehome her. I get so many of these inquiries it gets depressing.

Poor iguanas. I always seem them up for adoption. You'd think people would bother to look into how big they get before they get one. =/

I can find out. I don't know this man, he got my name at Angel. It gets so depressing I don't know how my friends that do full time rescue handle it. All I do is help with rehoming and it burns me out sometimes.

Sent him an email and asked for additional info on; rehoming fee, health issues, spay, tame, enclosure type, aggression, diet and any other information he thought important. I'll let you know once he returns the email.

Ok Thanks, I already sent out a few emails to family/friends in the area. I do know of 2 that where looking to get a larger lizard, undecided on kind but they did love my Iggy when I had her.

2 emails received today from owner.
1st
Emerald was born 3.27.09. She's about 1900.00 grams and about 3.5ft long. A very curious iguana that is very docile. I have trained her to use the restroom in the bathroom on trash bags. With more time, she could use the bathroom in a cat litter box. She is very healthy and is on a stable diet of greens including: swiss chard, red and green lettuce, mustard green, collard greens and broccoli. She loves bananas probably because of the softness and texture against her teeth. There are other fruits she eats like strawberries, blackberries, grapes, etc. I added a calcium D3 powder supplement and then switched to an aerosol vitamin supplement with Beta Carotene that helps with proper digestion. For a snack I usually give some bananas or i give her adult Iguana fortified food you can get at the local pet store.
Emerald eats about twice a day but could eat more if I allowed her. Once in the morning and when I get home from work in the evening. Emerald is on a shelving unit that is split in two halves, a basking area and then the sleeping quarters on the top of the shelving unit. Emerald layed eggs during her first gravid period ( she was with no males, this is apart of a female iguana's reproductive system) The eggs were empty. She is docile so I am able to clip her nails when handling her or in the bath. Emerald loves the water and I give her a bath about 3 days a week for about 30 minutes. She is fidgety when holding her for two long and will use her nails to her advantage if not clipped regularly.

2nd
Well I have a lot of equipment from extra high wattage bulbs, tongs, supplements, a 50 gallon transportation tank and other useful materials. I will only charge 100.00$ for Emerald and this equipment. Thank you for your help, I will contact this facility in Weymouth as well
