Looks kinda like a prolapse.. You should visit the vet ASAP

In the meantime keep it moist, search for prolapses on here and there is lots of good advice (better than anyhting i can recommend) :)

so i went to the vet ,and it was prolapsed but it wasn't a hemipenis,it was either her anus or cloaca, which means it still possibly a girl! anyways, he pushed it back inside of her and gave her something to get rid of possible worms, but my poor Nina is pushing so hard it kept coming back out so he stitched her up it looks like and i go back in a week to see if she will be ok ! i hope she doesn't force it out again, i wish i can relax her...

incase of prolapse.....

re prolapses
its always best to keep the prolapse moist

mix a little sugar with water until it dissolves

then put the snake in a tub with an inch or two of sugar water in it,then allow the snake to soak the prolapse

after you take the snake out the sugar water, keep a close eye on the prolapse,to make sure it does not dry out and remains moist at ALL times...

if it starts to dry out, simply place the snake back in the sugar water and soak further

if a prolapse is allowed to dry out, then the tissue can die, usually ending in the snake being euthinised

i'm glad you got yours sorted out in time pal :)

cheers shaun

Let's hope she makes it to the vet tomorrow.

Sadly, if it didn't cure it the first time I highly doubt it'll ever be okay...

sorry but i have to agree with Aaron pal

if the stitches did not prevent another prolapse, then its not looking good

that said, the vet may re stitch it and the snake may make a full recovery, but imo it's a slim chance

i hope the vet can do something to help get this sorted out

all the best,shaun

How is she doing? What happened with the vet?

the vet that sees reptiles is not in until tomorrow morning, shes was in sugar water but it was making her sticky and hard for her to move, he said to keep he in damp newspaper until the morning, but its looking really bad, she is getting really skinny.. wish i didn't feed her but then again she needs to eat,, she just cant poop...

jennuhkins
01-23-13, 12:18 AM

does anyone know what causes prolapses? i feel like its my fault, is it switching from frozen/thawed to live back to frozen/thawed? or humidity variations,..or stress from unknown causes... my two corns are doing wonderful.. but my bp is just going down hill after her first prolapse, and her second prolapse is making her weak and thin... she even smells bad....

I feel bad for you and your little snake. I really am crossing my fingers for her, hope you guys get everything sorted and she survives. I've not seen this kind of thing before, this is a first for me! Keep us all posted. I doubt it is your fault though. You're doing your very best, don't kick yourself.

does anyone know what causes prolapses? .

I'm not 100% on snakes BUT if it's the same as humans....

Old age, childbirth, deterioration of surrounding muscles, constipation, diarrhea, constant straining.....

So maybe your snake had a GI issue from ingesting substrate. How were it's bowel movements?

Now that I remembered things I didn't want to picture ever again...back to dinner...

EDIT: After re-reading, a month of not eating? Maybe because of a bowel obstruction it couldn't pass resulting in the straining that finally made it pop.

So the snake is pushing so hard it will not stay in, the vet stitched her up again and now i have to give her Baytril injectables once a day every 3 days for 3 weeks.... he said try to feed her as much as i can, shes down to 70 grams... her first vet visit she was in the 90's so shes loosing weight fast!, but she refuses to eat from me. both live and frozen. she even pushed passed her stitches and her prolapse is kinda showing but kinda held in by the stitches.... she has the opposite of constipated she pushed everything out so her feces isn't backed up thank god, but she is straining herself, her skin isn't looking good... i hope all these vet visits will save her because I've spent all my money on her...

jennuhkins
01-23-13, 08:09 PM
i have no substrate in her cage its paper towels..
her last poop was slimy and everywhere, kinda white and yellow, she ate 2 weeks ago, so when she went poop i think she strained herself into another prolapse...

Unfortunately without knowing the cause it's going to be hard to keep sewing her up and hoping. Sounds like it just won't stop which is really weird.

I'd start preparing yourself that she may not live for very much longer.

i know i was surprised the vet wanted to help her still, she is in really bad condition... maybe they're just in it for the money..

If you have to wait any time at all I would put the snake down. It has to be in a lot of pain and its a shame to just leave it and let it suffer while you figure out a way to afford to take it to the vet.

This ^^^ It is a sad part of owning any animal that sometimes we have to make hard decisions and perform unpleasant actions.

Sorry that you are going through this :(

Arguably, what the Vet did was animal abuse. What a jerk!

Next time use credit. You can call up credit companies and (depending on the circumstances) get them to cancel credit transactions. It's a great way to stop exploitation like this.

Any chance you could document what Vet who you worked with?

I'm sorry for your loss. It's really terrible that this happened to you.

.
In some cases, my guess is this is one of them, they will not just cancel the charge without you going to get a second opinion from an equally qualified person stating the care was substandard. When this has happened to me most of the time it costs more to get someone to do this...

Since when is it illegal to cancel a check??

jennuhkins
01-27-13, 09:56 PM
that's what my mom told me ,well let me rephrase that... i never written a check before, she told me if i didn't have money in my account and the check bounces ill have a **** load of payments.. sorry i said illegal i was rushing. i called to cancel but it was 20 bucks so i don't think i'm going cancel it...
