That's really weird, are you going to take the body to a vet?
i dunno. depends on whether or not he'll charge me. might just have our pet store owner take a look.

Could maybe this help?
http://www.sidneyanimalhospital.com/downloads/Caresheet_reptile_08_LumpsBumpsinSnakes.pdf
It mentions skeletal lumps. It says, "There may be a single area of firm swelling, or an area of spinal deviation, either a sideways "kink", or a protruding lump. The area might be painful to the snake, and be might and he might be reluctant to move, or have difficulty moving." That's just what I could find through Google though. I'm sure no one can know unless a vet looks at the body.

It could've just been convulsions but don't go over there in case it is infectious.
he's dead...they said he was acting totally normal. I was there like 4 days ago, and he was fine, minus the fact he didn't eat. his belly turned red right before he died too...like...splotchy red.

Sorry for your loss :(, i would follow strict quarantine procedures with all snakes that have been close to this one in the alst few months, especially until you can find out what happened.

A necropsy would be the only option and but I fear he's been disposed of already.
The redness could be internal bleeding right in the area of just underneath his scales/skin.

how would a snake get this?
infection spreads through the blood to other parts of the snakes body

so just generally any infection can turn into sepsis?

the case in the picture was mouth rot (stomatitis),which had spread through the blood stream...
i've not done much research on scepticemia in snakes, but i'm thinking all infections left untreated, will eventually enter the bloodstream, causing scepticemia

feel free to correct me if i'm wrong folks,as its an educated guess

So sorry for the loss.
Sorry to hear of your loss :(
thanks guys! body has not been disposed of...it's in my fridge so i can take it and see if anyone will help me with it. Pajamas is in my room, so he's quarantined off. Can't hold him right now anyways, as he just ate. Thankfully, he's my only snake right now, so that makes this quarantine thing easy. Septicemia was my first though, but he wasn't sick...and the blotches are right near his head, and then all the way down his body...wish i would have thought to take pictures of it. If it's still there, I'll get pics. It was strange. It almost looks like a burn, but it showed up after he passed

i'm sure i read somewhere that the red blotches after death,is something to do with the way the blood settles in the body post mortem

oh good. I'm not so worried about that, then. still a little upset, but, I get to do a necropsy myself, which should be pretty cool. (none of our vets do them on reptiles, and the herp guy said he hasn't done them enough to be too much better than I would be). so...that's on the agenda for tomorrow

you could take pictures like Randy did doing his pm...
then people can help you work out the cause of death
Randy's had worms and weird growths
cheers shaun
yup, that's the plan! I'm so glad I ganked a bunch of scalpels from when i worked at the hospital xD (they're disposable ones).
