Hi, I am new to this sight and decided to join because I have a Burmese that is stuck in mid-evacuation. Is there anything I can do to help him. As of now, he has been stuck for about an hour. Any suggestions?

I inherited a Burmese about 2 months ago. He had been neglected and down to skin and bones. We have been feeding him small frozen (thawed) mice. Today however, we discovered him to be stuck mid-evacuation, if you will. He is very uncomfortable with a fecal lump hanging have out. Is there anything we can do to help him?

Welcome, I merged your two posts. It's confusing when the same question is posted more than once.

Perhaps setting him in a warm bath and gently massage the surrounding area?

put him in a warm bath,i usually take the snakes body temperature, with a lazer temperature gun, then i make the water 1 degree lower than the snakes actual body temperature...

could you please take some pictures...

as a new member you may not yet qualify to post pictues, but i'm sure Wayne infernalis our mod, will give you an e mail address to send, the picture to him, then he will post it

WAYNE can you accept pictures from the op,then post them please,as you know a prolapse, needs prompt attention from a vet (if this is the case)

re prolapse
it needs to be kept from drying out,as this can cause tissue damage,to the point of tissue dying

if you put a little sugar water (an inch or two)in the bottom of a tub, that the snake will fit in,then put the snake in the tub and allow the prolapse to soak

re sugar water
mix a little sugar with water, then stirr until the sugar disolves

please let us know how it goes

cheers shaun

a baths a great idea,but.....

i am NOT being cheeky...

the op is unsure if its a prolapse,so due to their inexperience,i would NOT recomend massaging anything,it could make a prolapse worse,if done incorrectly

Constantine was able to finish evacuating his bowls after a long soak. Upon removing him from the tub of water, his skin ripped in several places. When we got him he had quite a few very bad scrapes, now we know why. It seems I have taken on a high maintenance pet. We are treating the rips with ointment and increasing the moisture in his tank. Also watching for any discharge due to damage caused by the prolapse (although that fixed itself). Thanks for the advise and we will continue to soak the little guy through out the Holidays to see if he gets better.

i would still get a good reptile vet to check it out, incase a few stiches are required...

it may need stiches to prevent further prolapses

cheers shaun

Thanks Shaun. We are looking for a good vet this week. We are going to put off feeding for a few weeks, let things settle if you will. Not sure why his skin ripped though. It is like it is too thin. You know how an old persons skin will rip? Any way, thanks for the advise. We will keep everyone up on how he is doing.

It's great that you are being proactive with his treatment. Prolapse can be devastating, each additional incident can weaken the muscles and tissue increasing the likelihood of necrosis to the area.
